After remaining missing for six days, the body of Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, also known as Jashinder Kaur (29), has been recovered in India’s Punjab state. The body was found early on Tuesday (19 May) in the Neelo canal in Ludhiana district by local police, according to a report by
Inder Kaur was last seen on the night of 13 May when she left her home at approximately 8:30 pm in her Ford Figo car to purchase household necessities. When she failed to return home later that night and her mobile phone was found switched off, her family alerted the police, suspecting abduction. Six days later, her body was discovered in the canal, confirming the fatal outcome of her disappearance.
According to a complaint filed by her brother, Jatinder Singh, suspicion fell on Sukhwinder Singh, also known as Sukha, a resident of Valoor village in Moga district. The family alleges that Sukhwinder had been exerting sustained pressure on Inder to marry him.
The two reportedly became acquainted approximately three years ago through Instagram, and their interaction gradually developed into a friendship. However, Inder later discovered that Sukhwinder was already married and had a child. Following this revelation, she withdrew from the relationship and severed all communication with him. The family claims that she also rejected his marriage proposal outright.
According to the family’s allegations, Sukhwinder reacted negatively to the rejection and began issuing repeated threats. Police investigations have indicated that he devised a plan to kill Inder. It is reported that he travelled from Canada but did not enter India directly; instead, he first arrived in Nepal and subsequently crossed into Punjab through the Nepal border.
As per the alleged plan, Sukhwinder, along with accomplices, intercepted Inder Kaur’s vehicle, abducted her at gunpoint, and later killed her. Her body was then disposed of in the canal. Following the incident, he reportedly fled back to Canada.
