Overload Festival Set to Unite Bangladesh’s Biggest Rock Bands

Bangladesh’s rock music community is preparing for one of the most significant live music events of the year as the Overload Festival takes place on 10 July at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Dhaka. Organised by Live Wave Entertainment, the one-night concert will bring together eight of the country’s most celebrated rock and metal bands, promising an evening that combines established classics with important new milestones for some of Bangladesh’s most influential musical acts.

The festival’s line-up features Artcell, Aurthohin, Black, Cryptic Fate, Nemesis, Powersurge, Level Five, and RockSalt. While each band has built a loyal following over decades, this year’s festival carries added significance because audiences will witness the first live performances of newly introduced members in two legendary bands. That development has generated considerable excitement among rock enthusiasts, making Overload Festival one of the most eagerly anticipated concerts of 2026.

For Aurthohin, the concert represents the beginning of a new era. On 5 March this year, the band announced the departure of its long-serving drummer Mark Don and guitarist Ehtesham Ali Moin. At the same time, the group unveiled its revised line-up. Shishir Ahmed, who had previously left Aurthohin in 2023 after nearly two decades with the band, has returned and will perform on both guitar and keyboards. Joining him as a new member is Adnan Atik, while Sheikh M Riaz of the band Mechanix will appear as the guest drummer for the performance.

The concert also marks Aurthohin’s long-awaited return to the Bangladeshi stage after an extended absence. The band’s founder and bassist Saidus Salehin Khaled Sumon, widely recognised by fans as “Bassbaba”, has been unable to participate regularly in live performances because of health-related challenges. As a result, the band’s domestic appearances have remained limited in recent years. Their most recent live performances took place during concerts in the United States in November and December last year. Nearly sixteen months later, Bangladeshi audiences will once again have the opportunity to see the band perform at home.

The festival is equally significant for Artcell, another pioneering force in Bangladesh’s rock scene. The concert will introduce Bakhtiar Hossain as the band’s touring vocalist during a live performance for the first time.

Earlier this week, long-time vocalist and founding member George Lincoln D’Costa announced that he would step away from the band’s regular activities for an indefinite period, citing personal reasons. In a video message published on Artcell’s official Facebook page on Wednesday night, Lincoln explained that his current residence in Canada makes it increasingly difficult to participate consistently in concerts in Bangladesh. To ensure that the band’s live performances continue without interruption, the remaining members agreed to appoint former Bay of Bengal vocalist Bakhtiar Hossain as Artcell’s touring frontman.

Artcell has also maintained a relatively limited live schedule over the past year. Its last concert was held in Australia in November last year, making the band’s return to the stage—alongside its new vocalist—one of the festival’s most anticipated moments.

For many fans, Overload Festival represents far more than a standard concert. Both Artcell and Aurthohin have played defining roles in shaping modern Bangladeshi rock music, inspiring generations of musicians through their albums, live performances and enduring influence. Seeing both bands embark on new chapters simultaneously is expected to be one of the evening’s defining attractions.

Alongside them, performances by Black, Cryptic Fate, Nemesis, Powersurge, Level Five, and RockSalt will showcase the diversity and strength of Bangladesh’s contemporary rock and metal scene. Collectively, the line-up spans multiple generations of musicians whose contributions have helped establish rock music as a prominent force within the country’s live entertainment landscape.

With several landmark performances scheduled for a single evening, organisers believe the festival will deliver a memorable experience for thousands of rock fans. The combination of legendary bands, refreshed line-ups and a rare opportunity to see many of Bangladesh’s biggest rock acts share one stage has positioned Overload Festival among the year’s most highly anticipated live music events.
