Othoihin Set for Major Stage Comeback in Dhaka

After a break of nearly a year and a half, the acclaimed Bangladeshi rock band Othoihin is set to return to the live stage in a much-anticipated performance at a major music festival in Dhaka. The band will appear at the ‘Overload Festival’ scheduled for 10 July at the Hall of Fame of the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon.

Organised by Live Wave Entertainment, the day-long event will run from 2 pm until 11 pm, bringing together several of the country’s most recognised rock acts. The festival is being viewed as one of the most significant live music gatherings of recent times, particularly for fans of Bangladesh’s contemporary rock scene.

Othoihin’s return has drawn particular attention due to both its timing and recent internal changes within the group. In March, the band confirmed the departure of long-standing drummer Mark Don and guitarist Ehtesham Ali Moin, marking a notable shift in its line-up. Their exit prompted a period of restructuring as the band worked to re-establish its musical direction ahead of live performances.

As part of this reorganisation, experienced musician Shishir Ahmed has rejoined the band, taking on guitar and keyboard responsibilities. He is joined by Adnan Atik, who has been brought in as a new member covering keyboards and guitar. For drums, the band will feature guest musician Sheikh M R Riyaz from Mechanics, adding further depth to the refreshed formation.

The festival line-up is set to include several other prominent names in the Bangladeshi rock circuit, including Artcell, Black, Cryptic Fate, Nemesis, Powersurge, Level Five and RockSalt. The presence of multiple leading bands on a single stage has generated considerable excitement among younger audiences, many of whom view such events as rare opportunities to experience the country’s rock heritage live.

Ticket sales began on 25 June via an online platform, with organisers reporting strong early demand. This response has been interpreted as a clear indication of sustained enthusiasm for large-scale rock concerts in the country, despite the limited frequency of such events in recent years.

For Othoihin, the upcoming performance represents more than just a return to live music. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, shaped by lineup changes and renewed creative energy. Fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see how the reformed group translates its legacy into this next phase on stage.

The Overload Festival, with its extensive roster and extended schedule, is expected to stand as a defining moment in Dhaka’s live music calendar this year, with Othoihin’s comeback serving as one of its central highlights.
