Bassbaba Suman Confirms Songs in ‘Andhar’ Film

Sayedus Saleheen Suman, widely known as Bassbaba Suman and the lead vocalist of the band Orthohin, has confirmed that his music will feature in the upcoming film Andhar, directed by Raihan Rafi. Suman is generally known for his reluctance to allow the use of his songs in films. However, he previously made an exception for Banalata Express, released during Eid, where the song Chaittei Paro Tumi was used following a request from director Tanin Noor.

In the case of Andhar, Bassbaba Suman has confirmed that the film will include both an older track and a newly recorded song performed in his voice. He has, however, chosen not to disclose further details at this stage, stating that more information will be made available by the production team ahead of the film’s release.

Beyond music, Suman is also involved in the creative development of Andhar. He co-wrote the film’s story alongside Shakib Chowdhury of the band Cryptic Fate and Adnan Adib Khan. According to Suman, the film is structured around a multi-genre narrative. He described it as combining elements of horror, comedy relief, action, thriller, and detective storytelling. He further stated that such a blend of genres has not previously been presented in Bangladeshi cinema in this form.

The development of the film’s story is rooted in a shared interest in supernatural and folklore-based narratives. Suman and Shakib Chowdhury reportedly travelled to different parts of the country in search of ghost stories and local legends, which later influenced the storyline of Andhar.

The film features a large ensemble cast, including Siam Ahmed, Nazifa Tushi, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, Gazi Rakayet, and Mostafa Monwar, among others. Filming for the project was completed last year, and the film is expected to be released in cinemas within the current year, although an exact release date has not been confirmed.

Following the release of Banalata Express, renewed attention has been given to the song Chaittei Paro Tumi. The track has reportedly gained audience engagement in cinema halls. Bassbaba Suman has expressed satisfaction over the response, noting that both domestic and international audiences have appreciated the work and that he considers it a meaningful achievement to be part of the project.

He also explained his initial decision to contribute music to Banalata Express, stating that he typically avoids allowing his songs to be used in films. However, he agreed due to his prior familiarity with director Tanin Noor’s work, including the film Utsob and the web series Kaizer, both of which he has personally watched and appreciated.
