In a poignant celebration of the 165th birth anniversary of the legendary polymath Rabindranath Tagore, the esteemed vocalist Maksura Antora has unveiled her debut solo album, titled ‘Dile Amare Jagaye’ (You Have Awakened Me). Released yesterday at 9:00 AM via the Bengal Foundation’s official YouTube channel, the collection has already begun to resonate deeply within the South Asian classical and contemporary music communities.
A Trans-Border Musical Odyssey
The album comprises eight meticulously selected tracks, showcasing the vast emotional and stylistic range of Rabindra Sangeet. While the lyrical and melodic sanctity of Tagore’s original compositions remains untouched, the arrangements have been delicately reimagined by Amlan Haldar.
The production was a collaborative effort that bridged the geographical gap between Dhaka and Kolkata. Recorded at the renowned Renaissance Studio in Kolkata and Patmanjari Studio in Dhaka, the album features a sophisticated tapestry of live instrumentation. A distinguished ensemble of virtuosos provided the accompaniment on the tabla, sitar, sarod, flute, and violin, ensuring a rich, organic texture that honours the traditional roots of the genre. The final sonic polish—mixing and mastering—was overseen by the veteran sound engineer Chandan Ghosh.
The Artist’s Pedigree
Maksura Antora’s journey to this milestone began at the tender age of seven. Her foundational years were spent at the Suchana Sangeet Vidyaniketan in Manikganj, where she underwent rigorous training in Hindustani classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, and Nazrul Geeti. She later refined her artistry at the prestigious Chhayanaut Shangheet Bidyayatan, completing her formal education in Tagore’s music with high distinction.
Beyond her recording career, Antora is a dedicated educator and a prominent figure in national media. She currently serves as an Assistant Teacher at the Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College and shares her expertise as a faculty member in the Rabindra Sangeet department at Chhayanaut. Furthermore, she is a listed artist for both Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar.
