Coke Studio Bangla Launches Fourth Season with Nazrul Track

Coke Studio Bangla has officially commenced its fourth broadcasting season with the release of a reimagined Nazrul Sangeet track titled “Room Jhoom”. Released as a dedicated cultural tribute to mark the birth anniversary of Bangladesh’s national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, the musical production premiered on the franchise’s official YouTube channel. The debut signifies the continuation of the franchise’s specialized format, which focuses on exploring historical connections between classical Bengali poetry and broader global musical traditions.

Cross-Cultural Origins and Production Credits

The track “Room Jhoom” is structurally rooted in an ancient Ottoman-Turkish folk melody titled “Üsküdar’a Gider İken”. Historically, Kazi Nazrul Islam adapted this Mediterranean melody, integrating its rhythmic cadences into a classic Bengali monsoon poem. While generations of Bengalis have maintained familiarity with the song, its transnational migration patterns remained largely unrecognized by modern audiences. The latest Coke Studio Bangla arrangement attempts to bring this historical journey full circle by systematically reuniting both local and original regional musical elements.

The sonic architecture of the 2026 reinterpretation was coordinated by veteran music producer Shuvendu, who managed the cross-border studio sessions. The project brought together a combination of domestic and international artists to execute the collaborative score. The participating performance lineup is detailed in the table below:

Performer Reflections and Seasonal Content Structure

According to an official press release issued by Coca-Cola Bangladesh Limited, the fourth season of the franchise will comprise a total of eight standalone songs. Each scheduled track has been produced to explore distinct emotional spectra and diverse sonic traditions through contemporary musical arrangements.

Reflecting on his participation in the season opener, debuting vocalist Mahtim Shakib stated:

“Being part of ‘Room Jhoom’ has been a truly special experience. The song carries a rich cultural legacy, and Coke Studio Bangla has created a space where timeless music can be presented in a way that connects with today’s generation while respecting its roots.”

Co-vocalist Nusrat Jahan also shared her personal connection to the production, noting that working under the direction of Shuvendu—who has served as a long-term musical mentor to both her and her brother, Saeef, since childhood—represented the fulfilment of a long-term professional goal. She indicated that initiating her mainstream platform presence with a track of such historical significance added substantial value to her artistic development.

Institutional Strategy and Cross-Border Connections

Since its initial establishment in 2022, Coke Studio Bangla has systematically focused on identifying and highlighting historical links between indigenous Bengali music and international folk movements. This cross-cultural production strategy aims to preserve regional identity while expanding the global reach of traditional South Asian music.

Commenting on the launch of the new season, Mohammad Moin Ullah Chowdhury, Managing Director of Coca-Cola Bangladesh Limited, observed that when a century-old Turkish folk melody successfully integrates into historical Bengali poetry, it clearly demonstrates the collaborative evolution of human culture. He concluded that the platform’s primary mandate is to honor and document these global artistic intersections.
