Bangladeshi musicians and bands are increasingly travelling abroad in response to invitations from expatriate Bengali communities, with a growing number of concerts scheduled across multiple countries. These performances are primarily aimed at serving the cultural and musical appetite of Bengalis living overseas.
Although international tours by artists and bands take place throughout the year, a higher concentration is typically observed during the summer and monsoon seasons, which are widely regarded as the peak period for overseas concerts. This year, however, international engagements have begun earlier than usual, particularly around the Bengali New Year celebrations.
Recent performances include appearances by prominent artists at Baishakhi-related events abroad. For instance, singer Maksudul Haque, associated with the band Dhaka, performed at a Baishakhi Mela concert in Calgary, a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. In the United States, a Pohela Boishakh concert in Miami featured performances by noted vocalist Tapan Chowdhury, along with Sujon Arif and other artists, as well as local bands.
In Australia, the band Shironamhin began its Oceania tour with a performance at the “Bangla Nababarsha Cultural Festival and Fair” in Sydney, New South Wales. Following this event, the band is scheduled to continue its tour across multiple Australian states, including Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia.
Singer Tasnim Anika is currently scheduled to perform at several events in Japan. Meanwhile, Elita Karim and Zeefer have announced concert tours in the United States. Several other bands and artists have also published schedules for performances in different countries.
One of the most extensive upcoming tours has been announced by the band Ark, which will undertake a four-month concert series in the United States beginning on 15 June. Their schedule includes performances on 4 and 18 July, 1 and 22 August, and 10 September across various American cities.
The band’s lead vocalist Hasan has stated that live stage performances remain central to sustaining the professional careers of Bangladeshi musicians. He noted that while some artists manage to earn a livelihood through recordings and album releases, maintaining long-term sustainability in music is difficult without regular stage performances. According to him, overseas tours contribute significantly to sustaining professional practice and exposure.
Similarly, Souls vocalist Partho Barua has observed that international concerts help musicians address financial challenges while also strengthening cultural ties with expatriate audiences. He added that these events respond to a strong demand from overseas listeners who remain closely connected to Bangla music.
Artist Shuvo, known in the rock music scene, is also preparing for a three-month tour in Canada with his band Shuvojatra, during which they are expected to perform at multiple venues.
