World Cup Opening Performances Announced

Plans have been confirmed for a series of cultural and musical opening events ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. According to the organisers, each of the three host nations will stage its own separate opening ceremony, featuring both international and local artists.

The first major opening ceremony will take place in the United States at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The event is scheduled to be held before the United States national team’s opening match and will include a special cultural programme. Among the performers confirmed for this stage are American pop artist Katy Perry and South Korean singer Lisa. They will be joined on stage by Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy, marking a notable collaboration across different musical backgrounds.

DJ Sanjoy has built a career over several years across South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. He is widely recognised within the electronic music scene and has been highlighted by international media as one of the prominent figures representing South Asian electronic music on the global stage. Speaking about his participation, he described performing at one of the world’s largest sporting events as a significant achievement in his career.

Separate opening ceremonies are also planned in Canada and Mexico. In Canada, the event will take place in Toronto and will feature performances by Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, and Alessia Cara. Meanwhile, Mexico’s opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 June at the Estadio Azteca, ahead of their match against South Africa. The Mexican line-up includes Maná, Alejandro Fernández, and Belinda.

According to the organisers, each ceremony will begin approximately 90 minutes before the respective opening matches. The duration of the events will vary, with Mexico’s programme expected to last around 16 minutes and 30 seconds, while the ceremonies in the United States and Canada are planned to run for approximately 13 minutes each.

FIFA has stated that the structure of these events is designed to highlight cultural diversity across the three host countries, with artists representing different regions and musical traditions contributing to the opening celebrations of the tournament.
