Dithi Anwar Revives Her Father’s Songs While Expanding Her Musical Archive

Singer, television presenter and social worker Dithi Anwar has returned to Bangladesh after spending more than a month and a half in the United States. Since her return a few days ago, she has resumed a busy schedule, balancing her responsibilities as a member of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board with her musical projects and efforts to build a lasting digital archive of songs.

On her way back to Bangladesh, Dithi attended an event organised by the Bangladesh Association in Dubai, where she was invited as a special guest. She performed at the programme and received a special recognition, adding another engagement to her musical activities abroad.

Back in Bangladesh, much of her attention is focused on her YouTube channel, ‘Dithi Anwar’, where she regularly releases both original recordings and cover versions. Her recent releases include ‘Ekta Tajmahal Banaiya’, ‘De Re De Re Prem De Re’, ‘Akashke Proshno Koro’, ‘Ghorir Kata’ and ‘Emni Korei Ekdin’.

The songs hold particular personal significance for Dithi, as their lyrics were written by her late father, celebrated lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar. Known for his extensive contribution to Bangla songs and film music, Gazi left behind a substantial body of work. By recording and releasing his lyrics through her own platform, Dithi is helping bring his compositions to listeners in a new format.

Singer Apu Aman has collaborated with her on the duets. The releases form part of Dithi’s broader effort to maintain her musical presence while preserving songs associated with her father’s creative legacy.

Among her latest projects is a new rendition of ‘Emni Korei Ekdin’, originally sung by Abida Sultana for the film ‘Nishana’. Dithi has reintroduced the song to audiences through her own interpretation. Her husband, Arif Chowdhury, appears alongside her as a model in the accompanying presentation, adding a personal dimension to the project.

Dithi has also lent her voice to a devotional song from the film ‘Chandidas O Rajakini’, released as part of a Mahalaya initiative organised by Bishwarang. The song’s lyrics were written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar, while the music was composed by the late Alauddin Ali. Tanvir Alam Sajib has undertaken the new musical arrangement.

The project brings together the work of several established figures in Bangla music and gives a familiar composition a fresh presentation. Mahalaya, which marks the beginning of the Durga Puja festivities for many Hindu devotees, is traditionally associated with devotional music and cultural programmes. The release therefore connects Dithi’s musical work with a wider cultural occasion.

Alongside these activities, she continues to fulfil her duties as a member of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board. Her schedule reflects a combination of institutional responsibilities and independent creative work, with her YouTube channel providing a direct platform for releasing music.

Speaking about her busy routine, Dithi said she finds happiness in working. She explained that her two sons’ education requires her to spend a particular period of each year outside Bangladesh. When she is in the country, she tries to make the most of her time by carrying out her board responsibilities and working on new musical releases.

One of her principal ambitions is to develop her YouTube channel into a comprehensive music archive. She wants the recordings to serve a purpose beyond entertainment, allowing them to become useful reference materials in the future.

Such an archive could help preserve access to songs that might otherwise become difficult for younger audiences to discover. It could also provide a convenient point of reference for music enthusiasts and researchers interested in the work of established Bangla lyricists and composers. Dithi has not described the channel merely as a place to publish new recordings; she hopes it will retain the songs for future generations.

Her latest projects reflect this combination of personal commitment and musical preservation. By revisiting songs written by her father, reinterpreting established film compositions and continuing to release new material, Dithi is seeking to keep the repertoire relevant to contemporary listeners while maintaining a connection with the legacy of Bangla music.

With her work spanning singing, television presentation, social service and film-related responsibilities, Dithi Anwar has several commitments to manage. Her current focus, however, remains clear: to continue making music and gradually build a digital collection that preserves these songs for years to come.
