Omar Sani Responds Firmly to Asif Akbar’s Criticism

Last month, renowned singer Asif Akbar found himself at the centre of controversy following his remarks about the nation’s football scene and its players. His comments sparked widespread criticism, with numerous footballers and social media users expressing their disapproval. Among those responding was the celebrated actor Omar Sani, who took to social media to address the issue.

The matter resurfaced recently during a podcast, where the host brought up the previous controversy. In his remarks, Asif labelled Omar Sani as “simple-minded,” a “pressure-driven individual,” and even a “woman-dominated man,” adding personal jabs about the actor’s private life. Towards the end of the segment, he attempted to soften his tone by saying, “I love him.” However, these comments did little to placate Sani, who responded decisively.

On Monday morning, Omar Sani posted a video message on Facebook, delivering a firm rebuttal. He stated, “I have never defamed him personally. Not a single word about his family or private life has ever come from me. I only spoke about the chair. Yet he has publicly discussed my personal life on television—this is unacceptable.”

Growing increasingly stern, Sani added, “Asif, go and ask Mousumi where I stand. There is no need for you to speak about my personal life. Speak about me, speak about football, speak about the chair—but not about my family.”

In a particularly striking moment of the video, Sani raised his hand toward the camera, directly addressing the singer: “See this hand? I am here in Dhaka city today. If you have the courage, come forward and speak to me face-to-face.”

He concluded with a pointed admonition about respect and dignity: “Do you even have a personality? Can you stand in front of Mousumi and me and speak? Be good, be polite. Allah has granted you honour—hold onto that.”

This public exchange highlights the tension between celebrities in the entertainment industry, especially when personal remarks enter the public domain. Fans and commentators are now closely watching how Asif Akbar will respond, adding another chapter to this ongoing media saga.
