A heartfelt moment for music lovers, especially for the fans of Zubin Garg, as his previously unreleased song “Obujh Pakhi” was released on his birthday, November 18. Zubin Garg, an iconic Indian singer, tragically passed away last September at the age of 52 during a scuba diving accident in Singapore. His sudden death raised many questions, with many believing it was not a natural demise. Investigations are still ongoing regarding the circumstances of his death. Garg had also lent his voice to songs in Bengali films and had a significant following in Bangladesh as well.
On what would have been Zubin Garg’s birthday, a never-before-heard song titled “Obujh Pakhi” was released from Bangladesh. The song was penned by lyricist Zulfiqar Russell, with the music composed and arranged by Tunai Debashish Ganguly. The song is available on the YouTube channel “Juti Music.” Zulfiqar Russell commented, “I had the privilege of working with Zubin Garg on several songs. We had plans to shoot the video in Meghalaya, but before that could happen, he left us. Today, on his birthday, we are presenting our first tribute.”
Russell further shared that Zubin Garg recorded seven songs written by him. “Obujh Pakhi” is one of them, and these songs were recorded in Assamese in 2015-16 at Garg’s personal studio. Following Zubin’s suggestion, these songs were later re-recorded in Hindi. These 14 tracks (7 in Bengali and 7 in Hindi) are set to be released gradually, with “Obujh Pakhi” soon to have a Hindi version as well.
In terms of the release of these songs, Zulfiqar Russell mentioned that talks had been initiated with Zubin’s wife, Garima Garg, who gave her consent for the song to be released on Zubin’s birthday. Russell added, “Since Zubin Garg is no longer with us, we had some concerns about how to release these unreleased tracks. We left it entirely in the hands of Garima Garg. She is unwell, so we couldn’t have detailed discussions, but she advised us to release the song quickly. We hope to release all the songs slowly, and any revenue generated will be directed to a trust in Zubin Garg’s name for charitable purposes.”
