South Korean singer Kim Tae-hyung, widely known as V of BTS, has revealed that he has been experiencing significant hearing loss in his right ear and is currently undergoing treatment.

During a recent livestream, V said the problem had persisted for more than two years. He explained that his hearing in the right ear had fallen to around 30 per cent compared with his left ear. According to the singer, the condition became more noticeable and severe while he was completing his mandatory military service, which ended in June 2025.

V said he did not initially regard the problem as a serious medical concern. He had believed that he could overcome it through mental strength and had therefore not sought immediate medical attention. As the condition continued, however, he eventually began taking medication and maintaining contact with a hospital on medical advice.

The singer has not disclosed a specific medical diagnosis or provided details about the underlying cause of the hearing problem. He has also not indicated how long his treatment is expected to continue. His comments suggest that he is now taking the condition more seriously and following professional medical guidance.

The disclosure comes at an important period for BTS, which has returned to group activities after a lengthy break caused largely by the members’ mandatory military commitments. South Korea requires most able-bodied men to complete compulsory military service, and BTS members fulfilled their respective service obligations before reuniting for group activities.

The members’ return has generated considerable attention among fans worldwide, particularly after a gap of more than four years since the group’s previous major world touring activities. The group is now continuing its ‘Arirang World Tour’, marking a significant phase in its activities following the members’ completion of military service.

Despite dealing with his hearing difficulties, V said he intends to continue participating in the tour while receiving treatment. His decision to speak publicly about the condition also gives fans a clearer understanding of the health issue he has been managing alongside his professional commitments.
