Kacey Musgraves has confirmed a trio of intimate Texas performances to celebrate the release of her forthcoming album, bringing renewed attention to both her music and her ongoing advocacy on immigration issues.
The Grammy-winning country artist revealed on Tuesday, 28 April, that she will perform at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, on 3, 4 and 5 May. The shows begin just days after the release of her sixth studio album Middle of Nowhere, due out on 1 May. Musgraves announced the concerts via Instagram, sharing a simple poster that read: “Kacey Musgraves … with special guests The Mariachi Brothers.”
The “Mariachi Brothers” are McAllen-based siblings Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar, who have drawn national attention after a turbulent immigration case earlier this year. The trio—aged 18, 14 and 12 respectively—were detained alongside their parents by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and held in Texas for around two weeks before being released in March amid widespread public criticism of immigration enforcement practices.
Antonio, the eldest, is an award-winning mariachi trumpeter, while all three brothers have performed together in a family ensemble. Their profile rose significantly after a performance on Capitol Hill last year, hosted at the invitation of Republican Representative Monica De La Cruz. Following their detention, De La Cruz publicly supported their release, describing the family as “valued members of the community.”
Musgraves has previously been outspoken on immigration policy. In June 2025, she posted on social media platform X criticising enforcement practices, writing that if protesters were not permitted to wear masks, immigration officers should not be either. Her inclusion of the Gámez-Cuéllar brothers in her album release shows further underscores her alignment with artists who have publicly challenged ICE operations.
The upcoming album Middle of Nowhere follows 2024’s Deeper Well, which reached number two on the Billboard 200. The new record includes collaborations with Miranda Lambert and Willie Nelson, continuing Musgraves’ tradition of blending contemporary country with established Americana influences. Two tracks have been released so far: “Dry Spell” and the title track.
