Bangladeshi singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel has once again been granted bail in a case involving allegations of fraud, financial exploitation, and the unlawful confinement and abuse of a young woman. The order was issued on Sunday (5 April) by Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, following a hearing in which the court approved bail upon the execution of a bond of 5,000 taka. According to the defence counsel, the ruling effectively removes any immediate legal barrier to the accused’s release.
The case was originally filed on 13 August last year at a Dhaka court by a woman identified as Annanya Shabnam Rosh. In her complaint, she accused Nobel along with four other individuals—including his mother, wife, a close associate, and a personal assistant—of involvement in a coordinated pattern of deception and abuse. The allegations state that Nobel developed a romantic relationship with the complainant and subsequently promised marriage, using the relationship as a means to gain her trust and extract money over an extended period.
As per the complaint, the situation deteriorated when the relationship broke down. The plaintiff alleged that she was then forcibly confined and subjected to both physical and psychological harassment. The case further claims that intimidation tactics were used to silence her and prevent her from seeking legal recourse.
The Police Bureau of Investigation conducted an inquiry into the matter. Its report, submitted on 7 January this year, reportedly found preliminary evidence supporting the allegations. Based on these findings, the court issued arrest warrants against the accused on 2 February. Nobel was subsequently arrested on 23 February from the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj and produced before the court the following day, when he was granted bail under certain reconciliation conditions.
However, the complainant later alleged that Nobel violated the conditions of his bail by continuing acts of intimidation and harassment. Following an application from the prosecution citing breach of settlement terms, the court revoked his bail on 2 April and ordered his incarceration.
In the latest development, the court reconsidered the matter and again granted bail under revised conditions. Legal observers suggest that the case is now at a critical procedural stage, with its direction likely to depend on forthcoming witness testimonies, documentary evidence, and judicial hearings.
According to case documents, the alleged fraudulent transactions span from August 2023 to June of the following year, during which a total of approximately 1,318,540 taka is said to have been obtained through deception. The investigation also references allegations of coercion, threats, and attempts to obtain compromising images of the complainant.
