The national public broadcaster, Bangladesh Betar, has officially published a recommended list enlisting 92 individuals as accredited composers and music directors. Released on 27th July, the list features several prominent artists from the country’s contemporary music scene, including Alam Ara Minu, Mehreen Mahmud, Sania Sultana Liza, Sukanya Majumdar, Sumon Kalyan, and Rajesh Ghosh, among others.
Bangladesh Betar, formerly known as Radio Bangladesh, holds a pivotal history in the cultural and socio-political landscape of the nation. Serving as a crucial medium for information, education, and entertainment since its inception, the institution maintains strict audition and enlistment protocols to preserve the quality and standards of musical broadcasting across its national and regional networks. Enlistment as an official composer or music director allows artists to produce, arrange, and direct original compositions specifically commissioned for state broadcasting, providing both national reach and official recognition.
For many established vocalists, this enlistment represents a formal acknowledgement of their multifaceted talents behind the scenes. Singer Alam Ara Minu, who has been actively involved in composition and music direction for a considerable period alongside her singing career, expressed her delight at receiving official recognition in this new capacity. Sharing the news on social media platforms, she conveyed her gratitude and extended warm felicitations to her fellow enlisted colleagues.
Similarly, singer-songwriter Sajiya Sultana Putul viewed this milestone as an important turning point in her artistic journey. With a career spanning over two decades—nearly fifteen years of which have been dedicated to songwriting and composing—Putul noted that this accreditation opens new avenues for collaborative work. Expressing her enthusiasm, she stated:
“This achievement is immensely valuable to me. I have been working as a composer and music director for nearly a decade and a half. Aside from my debut album, all subsequent albums and single releases feature my own lyrics, compositions, and arrangements. Over time, many artists expressed a desire to collaborate, but the right opportunity had not materialised until now. This official enlistment with Bangladesh Betar enables me to formally embark on this phase of my journey and collaborate with other vocalists. Naturally, I am thrilled about this new chapter in my musical career.”
The initiative by Bangladesh Betar is expected to inject fresh creative energy into the public radio network, facilitating diverse collaborations between veteran musicians and contemporary talents across the country.
