‘O Jan’: Gen-Z Romance Shines in Nepalese Landscape

Nestled in the Himalayan folds, beneath snow-capped peaks and beneath expansive blue skies, lies the town of Jomsom in Nepal’s Mustang region. Situated approximately 2,760 metres above sea level on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, this remote town has long captivated filmmakers and travel enthusiasts alike. Its breathtaking scenery, challenging terrain, and extreme weather conditions have earned it the reputation of a “dream location with a challenge” in Bollywood circles.

It is against this dramatic backdrop that the Bangladeshi musical film O Jan was recently filmed, featuring actress Sunerah Binte Kamal and model–actor Forrukh Ahmed Rehan in the lead roles.

Shooting in sub-zero temperatures ranging from –8°C to –10°C, the cast and crew faced formidable conditions. The pristine snow-covered mountains and serene landscapes offered a visually stunning canvas, but filming amid such cold and thin air tested the endurance of the performers.

Sunerah Binte Kamal reflected on the experience, stating, “The beauty of Jomsom resembles a painting brought to life. Shooting in –8°C was challenging, yet it has become a memory I will cherish forever. Audiences will not only fall in love with the music but also with the place itself.”

Forrukh Ahmed Rehan added, “Filming in such a cinematic location was extraordinary. The cold was biting, yet the splendour of the scenery made it effortless to forget the discomfort.”

The music of O Jan also carries distinctive features. Vocal performances were provided by Konal and Niloy, with lyrics penned by Asif Iqbal. Composition was a collaborative effort between Dhaka-based Avral Sahir and Kolkata’s Lincoln, who also managed musical arrangement. The production was directed by Tanim Rahman Anshu, with post-production combining the talents of teams from Bangladesh, India, and Nepal.

Asif Iqbal, head of Ganchil Music, commented, “‘O Jan’ tells a tender story of Gen-Z love. Each layer of the song explores innovation, with unique musical and atmospheric elements.” Director Tanim Rahman Anshu added, “By integrating cutting-edge technology, we have created a cinematic experience where snow, mountains, and romance converge. It is a testament to cross-border collaboration among Bangladeshi directors, Indian cinematographers, and Nepali location managers.”
