Music Network is calling on musicians and performing groups across Ireland, including Waterford, to apply for its prestigious Music Capital Scheme. This year, the scheme offers a record €1,939,700 in funding, a 78% increase from last year, and is supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
A total of €1,040,000 is allocated to Awards 1, 2, and 4, which are designed to assist non-professional performing groups and individual professional musicians in purchasing instruments and essential equipment. This funding is crucial for supporting the development of music across the country, ensuring that musicians have access to the tools they need to succeed.
Since its inception in 2008, the Music Capital Scheme has granted 657 awards, benefitting over 59,000 individuals. Past recipients include the Bluebell Community Development Project, Taisce an Oileáin (Arranmore Island), Portlaoise Men’s Shed, and notable musicians such as Libby McCrohan, Niall McCabe, and Yseult Cooper Stockdale.
Sharon Rollston, CEO of Music Network, expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support of the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport. She said, “We are deeply thankful for their support of the Music Capital Scheme, which helps musicians and performing groups access the instruments and equipment they need to flourish.”
Applications for Awards 1, 2, and 3 must be submitted by 2 pm on Thursday 27th November. These awards are available to non-professional performing groups (Award 1), established professional musicians (Award 2), and emerging professional musicians (Award 3).
In addition, two new awards will be introduced in 2024: one providing string instruments on loan and the other supporting venues in acquiring or refurbishing concert-standard grand pianos.
