Singer Lucky Ali has expressed regret over his recent confrontation with renowned writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar, admitting that he “might have been rude” in his comments and acknowledging that he “regrets it.” Speaking to Navbharat Times, Lucky revealed that he would “certainly apologise if I get the chance.” This comes after Lucky Ali’s criticism of an old video in which Akhtar allegedly made a remark about the dynamics between Hindus and Muslims.
In his interview, Lucky clarified that while he did not use offensive language, his tone had been rude. “No human being is perfect, I too have made mistakes. Sometimes we react without thinking,” he said. “I might have been disrespectful towards an elderly person, which I regret. If I get the opportunity, I will certainly apologise.”
The singer also discussed the impact of public figures’ words on individuals and communities. “When someone repeatedly speaks against your community or religion, it hurts, especially when that person is a prominent and responsible figure. I made a mistake in my reaction. I did not use foul language, but the matter was blown out of proportion. If anyone has been hurt, I apologise, but responsibility lies with everyone,” Lucky added.
The controversy between the two began last month when Lucky Ali responded to a tweet criticising Javed Akhtar for allegedly telling Hindus, “Don’t become like Muslims. Make them like you. Don’t become like Muslims. It’s a tragedy.” In retaliation, Lucky Ali wrote, “Don’t become like Javed Akhtar, never original and ugly as f**k.” Following this, the singer issued a clarification, explaining that he meant to criticise arrogance rather than Akhtar personally, and that his message had been poorly conveyed. “Monsters may have feelings too, and I apologise if I hurt anyone’s monstrosity,” he said.
In response to the singer’s comment about him being “ugly,” Javed Akhtar remained calm, telling India Today, “I must take Lucky Ali’s opinion with a pinch of salt. I should accept it. Although I don’t agree with it, I’m happy to know that he has opinions. That’s wonderful.” Akhtar’s response highlighted his ability to remain composed amidst the controversy, while Lucky Ali later issued a more tongue-in-cheek apology for his initial remark.
