Globally renowned music production platform Splice has recently released a groundbreaking project by Bangladeshi musician Armeen Musa, titled “Bengali Baul Folk Vocal.” Splice, widely used by millions of producers, composers, and DJs worldwide, provides royalty-free music from diverse genres, including electronic, cinematic, pop, and experimental compositions, enabling contemporary musical creation across digital and live platforms.
The “Bengali Baul Folk Vocal” project was developed in collaboration with the Indian composer Dhruv Goel’s label, Arhar. The collection masterfully blends the century-old spiritual essence, poetic depth, and spontaneous expressiveness of traditional Baul music with contemporary global music production techniques. By combining ancestral folk melodies with modern sound design, the project aims to position Baul music within a contemporary international framework while preserving its authentic soul.
Vocals for the project are performed by acclaimed Baul artists Baby Akhtar and Lokman Siddiqui, with production led by Armeen Musa and sound mixing completed by Iftikharul Alam Shuvo. Armeen Musa emphasised that the emotive and spiritual qualities of the Baul tradition are fully conveyed through the voices of the two artists. He added that the project reimagines Baul music not merely as heritage but as a living, adaptive genre compatible with modern technology and global production standards.
Earlier, British-Bangladeshi composer and producer Kishon Khan had collaborated with Baby Akhtar to introduce Baul music to contemporary jazz and modern fusion projects.
The “Bengali Baul Folk Vocal” project marks the second Bangladeshi sample pack to be released on Splice, following Armeen Musa’s earlier project, “Contemporary Bengali Chorus.”
