James Returns to Dhaka Stage Alongside Four Major Bands

Bangladesh’s celebrated rock musician Mahfuz Anam James is set to perform at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka on Friday (23 October), joining four other prominent bands for a major concert that brings together some of the country’s best-known names in rock music.

Titled ‘Rock N Rhythm 5.0: No Limits in the Zone’, the event will take place at the Carnival Arena inside Jamuna Future Park, one of the capital’s largest shopping and entertainment complexes. James will perform with his band Nagar Baul, marking his return to a ticketed concert in Bangladesh after a lengthy interval.

The performance has particular significance for the veteran musician, whose distinctive voice and commanding stage presence have made him one of the most recognisable figures in the country’s music industry.

Speaking ahead of the concert, James expressed enthusiasm about returning to a ticketed performance before his home audience.

“I am performing at a ticketed concert in the country after a long time. I hope the audience will get to hear and see something new,” he said.

His remarks have added to the anticipation surrounding the event, although he has not revealed whether the performance will include new songs, different musical arrangements or other surprises.

According to a Facebook announcement by the organiser, Adventor Communication, the concert will feature Nagar Baul, Ark, Warfaze, Aurthohin and Shunno.

The five bands represent different periods and musical approaches within Bangladesh’s rock scene. Their participation will give audiences an opportunity to experience a range of musical styles at a single event.

Another attraction will be guitarist Oni Hasan, who is scheduled to join Warfaze for a special performance. He will also present a solo guitar performance, offering an additional highlight for enthusiasts of instrumental rock music.

Musician AK Rahul is also expected to perform at the concert, further expanding the programme beyond the five participating bands.

James has played an influential role in the development and popularity of Bangladeshi rock music over several decades. Known for his powerful vocals, expressive delivery and energetic performances, he has maintained a loyal following across generations.

His songs, including ‘Maa’, ‘Baba’ and ‘Bangladesh’, remain familiar to music enthusiasts, reflecting his ability to connect with audiences through emotionally resonant lyrics and distinctive musical arrangements.

Through Nagar Baul, James has continued to establish his reputation as a leading figure in the country’s live music scene.

The other participating bands have also contributed significantly to Bangladesh’s musical landscape.

Ark has maintained a longstanding presence in the country’s band music industry, while Warfaze is widely recognised for its guitar-driven sound and influence on the development of Bangladeshi rock.

Aurthohin has attracted a dedicated audience through its distinctive musical identity, and Shunno has gained popularity with songs that appeal to both younger listeners and established band music enthusiasts.

The presence of these groups on the same stage reflects the continuing appeal of rock music in Bangladesh, where bands from different generations have developed substantial followings.

Oni Hasan’s scheduled collaboration with Warfaze is another notable feature of the event. His solo performance is also expected to provide a different musical experience alongside the full-band presentations.

For James’s admirers, however, the main attraction remains his return to a ticketed domestic concert after a considerable break. His promise of something new has created curiosity about what audiences might experience during Nagar Baul’s performance.

The organisers have confirmed the principal line-up, but the original announcement does not provide a detailed performance schedule or specify the nature of any special arrangements.

With five established bands and additional performances by Oni Hasan and AK Rahul, ‘Rock N Rhythm 5.0’ is set to offer a varied programme celebrating the diversity and enduring popularity of Bangladesh’s rock music.

The concert will bring together performers whose contributions have helped shape the country’s band music culture, offering audiences an opportunity to experience their music live at one of Dhaka’s prominent entertainment venues.
