Ishaan Mozumder Turns Personal Memories into New Song ‘Dhoop’

Singer-songwriter Ishaan Mozumder has released a new song, ‘Dhoop’, on YouTube, following the success of ‘Patar Bashori’, which attracted millions of listeners after its release through Coke Studio Bangla.

Released in July, ‘Patar Bashori’ features Ishaan alongside singer Sunidhi Nayak. The song quickly gained widespread attention, surpassing 65 million views on YouTube in less than two months. Its strong reception helped bring Ishaan’s music to a broader audience, raising interest in his subsequent releases.

With ‘Dhoop’, Ishaan takes a more intimate and reflective approach, exploring the pain of losing a loved one and the memories that continue to sustain a sense of connection long after that person is gone. Rather than focusing solely on grief, the song examines how familiar sights and seemingly insignificant moments can bring the memory of someone back into everyday life.

Sunlight serves as the central image in the song. An ordinary moment can unexpectedly evoke the presence of someone who is no longer around, blurring the emotional boundary between absence and closeness. Through this theme, ‘Dhoop’ reflects on the enduring nature of personal memories and the ways in which people continue to feel connected to those they have lost.

The song also represents a personal creative journey for Ishaan. Speaking about its release, he revealed that he had recorded ‘Dhoop’ three years ago, initially intending to keep it for his own listening rather than share it with the public.

Over time, however, the song evolved. Ishaan and music producer Dippro Ahmed spent an extended period working with the composition and living with the piece before deciding that it was ready to be released. The eventual launch marks the transition of a privately cherished recording into a work intended for a wider audience.

Ishaan wrote the lyrics, composed the music and performed the vocals. Dippro Ahmed contributed the piano performance and production, while the musical arrangement was jointly handled by Ishaan and Dippro. Andy played the violin, adding another instrumental layer to the recording.

Adri Biswas was responsible for mixing and mastering the track, helping bring its different musical elements together into the final recording. The accompanying music video was directed by Rohit Das.

The creative team reflects a collaborative process built around Ishaan’s original composition, with each contributor playing a distinct role in shaping the finished work. The song’s themes of loss, remembrance and emotional attachment provide its central narrative, while the musical arrangement supports its reflective mood.

The release follows the considerable online response to ‘Patar Bashori’, but ‘Dhoop’ presents a different emotional perspective. Where the earlier song helped establish Ishaan’s presence before a large digital audience, the new track draws on a more personal experience of music-making, having remained close to the singer for several years before reaching listeners.

For artists, recordings initially made for private enjoyment can sometimes take on a different meaning when shared publicly. In the case of ‘Dhoop’, Ishaan’s decision to release a song recorded three years earlier offers listeners an opportunity to connect with a composition that has accompanied him through an extended period of creative development.

‘Dhoop’ is now available on Ishaan’s YouTube channel, ‘Ishaan er Gaan’.
