Ferdous Wahid and Manik Unite for Hopeful New Song ‘Surjobar’

Veteran Bangladeshi pop singer Ferdous Wahid and singer-songwriter Amirul Momenin Manik have released a new song, ‘Surjobar’, offering a message of hope to people facing disappointment, personal crises and shattered dreams.

The song is available on the Manik Music YouTube channel. Written by Manik, the composition explores the emotional challenges of everyday life and encourages listeners to look beyond frustration towards the possibility of positive change.

Pijit Mahajan has composed the music, while Autumnal Moon is responsible for the arrangement. The collaboration brings together Ferdous Wahid’s longstanding experience in Bangladeshi pop music and Manik’s life-oriented songwriting, with the lyrics placing particular emphasis on resilience and optimism.

Speaking about the release, Ferdous Wahid said that broken dreams and betrayal were recurring experiences in people’s lives, often leaving them frustrated for various reasons. He explained that the artists had recorded ‘Surjobar’ to counter this sense of despair and bring hope into people’s hearts.

Praising the song’s lyrics and melody, the veteran singer described the composition as exceptional. He added that it had been a long time since he had lent his voice to a song with such a strong connection to real-life experiences. He also expressed his belief that Bengali music could take another step towards encouraging positive social change.

Ferdous Wahid established himself as a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s pop music scene during the 1980s. Several of his songs, including ‘Emon Ekta Maa Dena’, ‘Mamuniya’ and ‘Agey Jodi Jantam’, achieved widespread popularity and helped cement his place in the country’s musical landscape.

His influence on Bengali popular music has continued through the work of his son, Habib Wahid, who subsequently gained recognition for his distinctive approach to musical arrangements and songwriting. Habib’s work introduced fresh sounds and production techniques to Bengali music, helping him establish an identity of his own.

Manik, meanwhile, came into the spotlight in 2005 with his song ‘Maa Je Dosh Mash Dosh Din’. He later gained further recognition for songs such as ‘Aay Bhor’, ‘Neel Porokiya’ and ‘Sokal Hobe Ki’, performed with renowned singer Nachiketa Chakraborty. His songwriting has often focused on human experiences and emotions, reflecting the life-oriented approach associated with his music.

Beyond his musical career, Manik has also made contributions to writing and journalism. His book, ‘A Few Stupid Teachers of the University’, became a bestseller at the Bangla Academy’s Ekushey Book Fair in 2012. In recognition of his work in journalism, he received the prestigious UNESCO Club Journalism Award in 2011.

Manik also founded ChangeTV.press, pursuing the idea of YouTube-based journalism. He currently serves as Director of Information and Public Relations at Hamdard Bangladesh.

With ‘Surjobar’, the two artists seek to offer listeners more than a musical experience. Its central message is that disappointment and uncertainty need not extinguish hope. By drawing on familiar struggles and the possibility of overcoming them, the song aims to encourage a more positive outlook on life while adding a new collaboration to the careers of two established figures in Bengali music.
