Dhallywood actress and dancer Cindy Rolling, widely recognised for her captivating screen presence and international-standard performances, is set to make a grand return to the silver screen. Following the recent critical acclaim for her role in the action-thriller Masud Rana, Rolling has signed on for two major item songs, including one in director Walid Ahmed’s upcoming feature film, Jiboner Khela.
Often credited by industry insiders with revolutionising the concept of item numbers in Bangladeshi cinema, Rolling’s return marks a significant moment for mainstream commercial film production. To ensure a completely fresh aesthetic, the actress is personally designing the costumes for both musical sequences. This hands-on approach highlights her long-standing commitment to the visual styling of her projects.
In Jiboner Khela, Rolling will share the screen with popular actor Abdun Noor Shajal for the first time. Whilst she has previously collaborated with top industry stars such as Shakib Khan and Arifin Shuvoo, this new pairing is generating considerable anticipation amongst fans. Speaking about the collaboration, Rolling expressed her gratitude to the director for placing his trust in her creative vision, noting that she has always endeavoured to contribute significantly to the styling and choreography of her films.
Rolling’s cinematic journey is decorated with several notable milestones. She made her big-screen debut in Noman Robin’s groundbreaking film Common Gender, performing an item number that garnered widespread attention. She later choreographed her own routines in both Common Gender and Redoan Rony’s critically acclaimed thriller Chorabali, the latter featuring a hit soundtrack composed by Fuad Al Muqtadir. Her subsequent performance in the Arifin Shuvoo-starrer Kistimat further cemented her reputation as a leading performer in the genre.
Beyond her commercial success, Rolling has achieved international recognition for her versatile acting skills. Her debut film, Common Gender, was selected for the prestigious Golden Globe Film Festival. More recently, at the 2024 Suchitra Sen International Film Festival held in New York, she was honoured with the Best Actress award for her compelling performance in the film Megher Kopat. Having also starred in the high-budget action film Superhero, Rolling continues to balance commercial appeal with critical success.
Preparations for the two new songs are already underway, with the actress undergoing rigorous training to deliver a completely transformed look and performance. With the momentum from Masud Rana still strong, these upcoming releases are poised to redefine contemporary dance sequences in Bangladeshi cinema.
