A new force is making waves in the modern soul scene—Brother Wallace, a West Point, Georgia native, is stepping into the solo spotlight with his electrifying debut single, Who’s That. Described as an artist “born to ignite pure joy,” Wallace is already turning heads with his dynamic sound and unapologetically vibrant energy.
Who’s That is not just a song, it’s a statement. A bold introduction to an artist who has spent a lifetime immersed in music, Wallace’s journey began at the age of 11, playing the piano in church. His career took him from those humble beginnings to sharing the stage with gospel icon Kirk Franklin and even performing at Madison Square Garden. Now, Wallace is carving out his own place in the world of soul, and this debut track signals the start of something big.
With his signing to ATO Records and a debut album scheduled for release this spring, Who’s That establishes Wallace’s unique sound—a high-energy, joyous blast of soul that turns heartbreak into triumph. The song, which tells the story of catching a partner with another man, is anything but sad. Wallace explains, “The stance it’s taking is more like, ‘I’m all right, I’m not hurt—I caught you and now I’m moving on.’ There’s something almost triumphant about it.”
Produced and co-written by Dan Taylor, guitarist for UK rock band The Heavy, the track is infused with raw grit, Memphis horn blasts, and a dash of Sympathy for the Devil swagger. Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, Who’s That offers a fresh take on soul, already earning praise from BBC6 Music’s Craig Charles, who described it as “so silky smooth.”
This single marks a new chapter for Brother Wallace, who previously worked as a K-12 music teacher before connecting with Taylor while touring as a backing vocalist for The Heavy. Now, with a show-stopping voice and a sound that’s both timeless and cutting-edge, Wallace is ready to step into the spotlight and take on the main stage.
