Two of Bollywood’s most celebrated playback singers of the 1990s, Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu, are set to reunite on a new song after a gap of 21 years. The veteran singers will lend their voices to ‘Suniyo Zara’, a track from the upcoming Sunny Deol film ‘Soorya: Ant Se Aarambh Tak’. Their collaboration has sparked interest among music lovers, particularly those who remain fond of the melodic Hindi film songs that defined an era.
According to a report by Indian publication Moneycontrol, ‘Suniyo Zara’ is being released as the film’s first song. The track also features vocals by Anupam Amod, while Sunny Deol, Ravi Kishan and other members of the cast appear in the song’s visuals.
The reunion brings together two familiar voices whose songs have remained popular among generations of Hindi film music enthusiasts. Their return as a duo is expected to evoke memories of the 1990s, when playback singers played a central role in shaping the emotional appeal and popularity of Bollywood soundtracks.
A Long-Awaited Reunion Since ‘No Entry’
Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu last sang together on ‘Kahan Ho Tum’, a song from the 2005 Bollywood film ‘No Entry’. They have not collaborated on another song since then, making ‘Suniyo Zara’ their first reported joint musical outing in 21 years.
The project also marks their return to a Sunny Deol film together after approximately 24 years. The singers previously lent their voices for the actor in ‘Karz: The Burden of Truth’, released in 2002.
Their renewed association therefore carries significance for fans of the singers as well as admirers of Sunny Deol. It reconnects two established playback voices with an actor whose career has spanned several decades of Hindi cinema.
For listeners who grew up with the music of the 1990s and early 2000s, the reunion offers an opportunity to revisit the distinctive vocal styles that helped make numerous Hindi film songs memorable. Although the musical landscape has changed considerably since then, interest in the era’s melody-driven compositions continues.
‘Suniyo Zara’ Celebrates Friendship
The song centres on friendship, companionship and the bonds shared between people. Its emotional musical arrangement is intended to appeal to fans of traditional Hindi film melodies while also reaching younger listeners.
Rahi, who is associated with Pritam’s music production company JAM8, has composed the music. The lyrics have been written by Priya Saraiya. Alongside Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu, Anupam Amod contributes vocals to the track, bringing three singers together for the film’s musical introduction.
The song is being released under the banner of Zee Music Company. According to the report, its teaser was scheduled to be released on 26 October, with the full song expected on 27 October.
The release is particularly noteworthy because of the extended gap since the singers’ previous collaboration. Their return together may appeal to audiences who associate their voices with romantic melodies, emotional performances and the musical identity of an earlier period in Hindi cinema.
