Nemesis to Celebrate Silver Jubilee With Special Concert

The prominent Bangladeshi alternative rock band Nemesis has reached a significant milestone, marking 25 years of its musical journey. To commemorate this silver jubilee, the band has announced a special solo concert titled ‘Eto Diner Pore-o Je’ (Even After All These Days), scheduled for 22 May. The event, which promises a blend of musical performances and anecdotal storytelling, will be held at the InterContinental Dhaka.

Historical Evolution and Formation

The origins of the band date back to 1999, when a group of college students conceptualised a musical ensemble. Following their school completion, founding members Saber and Rishad recruited Maher Khan and Yawar Mahbub. Maher’s brother, Sabin, subsequently joined the group. Their debut performance took place at a New Year’s Eve rooftop party, where Rishad and Maher’s school friend, Zohad Reza Chowdhury, was introduced; Zohad eventually became the band’s lead vocalist.

In early 2000, the group officially adopted the name ‘Nemesis’. The lineup underwent several transitions during its formative years. Following Sabin’s departure in early 2000, Nandito and Ratul joined the ranks. In 2002, when Yawar and Nandito relocated abroad for higher education, Dio and Omair were inducted into the band.

Discography and Musical Milestone

The band’s rise to mainstream prominence began with their first single, ‘Obocheton’, released in 2003 as part of the mixed compilation album Agontuk-2. The track’s success led to a contract with the record label G-Series for their debut studio album. To date, Nemesis has released four studio albums, consistently influencing the Bangladeshi rock scene.

The Silver Jubilee Event

The 25th-anniversary concert is designed to be an immersive experience, featuring appearances by former band members and several guest artists. Beyond the music, members will share the historical context and ‘behind-the-scenes’ narratives of their compositions, tracing the band’s trajectory from small-scale performances for friends to becoming an established musical institution.

Reflecting on the journey, lead vocalist Zohad Reza Chowdhury stated that the band’s progression has been extraordinary, attributing their longevity to personal perseverance and the continued support of their audience. Tickets for the event are currently available via the online platform ‘Get Set Rock’, priced at 799 BDT. The concert aims to encapsulate two and a half decades of artistic evolution through both song and story.
