“Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak” Returns Reimagined

Eighteen years after its original release, the beloved Bengali song “Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak” is set to make a triumphant return in a completely reimagined version. First brought to widespread attention by singer Sonia, who rose to fame through the CloseUp One Tomakei Khujchhi Bangladesh competition, the song captivated audiences across the nation. Despite the passage of nearly two decades, its energetic rhythm and festive charm continue to enthral listeners both in Bangladesh and on international stages. Dance performances accompanying the song only heighten its infectious appeal.

Sonia, the original voice behind the hit, has long stepped away from the music scene, choosing to settle in Canada with her family. Despite her extended hiatus, the song has remained a cherished part of the collective memory of fans. Recognising the song’s enduring popularity, production house Ganchil has undertaken the task of introducing it to a new generation with contemporary arrangements.

Shawkat Ali Emon, the original composer and music director, has returned to oversee the revamped version. The production team has completed both the audio recording and video shoot. The new edition blends modern soundscapes with fresh vocals, while the visuals have been updated to reflect contemporary storytelling styles.

Shawkat Ali Emon remarked, “A song that transcends time and becomes part of people’s lives is no longer just a song—it evolves into an emotion. Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak is precisely such a piece. Eighteen years ago, people embraced it wholeheartedly, and that love continues today. Wherever I have gone in the world, this song has received special affection. Our aim with the new version is to connect with younger audiences while preserving the essence of the original. We hope Gen Z listeners will make it their own.”

The updated rendition features vocals by Shawkat Ali Emon himself, alongside rising stars Jhilik, Luipa, Anisa, and Cornia from popular reality shows Channel i Sera Kontho and Power Voice. The lyrics were penned by Kabir Bakul, while Chandan Roy Chowdhury directed the music video, which was recently filmed in Dhaka.

In anticipation of the Bengali New Year, the song is scheduled for release on 9 April.
