The Bangladeshi rock landscape has been stirred by a significant transition within Aurthohin, one of the nation’s most enduring musical institutions. On Thursday, 5 March 2026, the band officially announced the departure of long-standing drummer Mark Don and lead guitarist Ehtesham Ali. However, in a move that has sparked nostalgia among the fanbase, the group simultaneously confirmed the return of virtuoso guitarist Shishir Ahmed.

A Decade of Rhythm: The Departure of Mark Don
Mark Don’s exit marks the end of an era for the band. Having occupied the drum throne for approximately a decade, his percussion defined the “Phenix” era of Aurthohin. In a poignant Facebook post, the band noted that “a decade in the world of music is a lifetime,” adding that Mark’s memory would remain “immortal in every beat of our albums and concerts.”
Joining him in the exodus is Ehtesham Ali, a talented young guitarist who joined the ranks in January 2025. His tenure, though brief, provided a fresh energy during the band’s recent live circuits.
The Return of a Prodigal Son
The headline of this reshuffle is undoubtedly the return of Shishir Ahmed. A fan favourite known for his technical prowess on both guitar and keyboards, Shishir had previously parted ways with the band in 2023. His reinstatement is seen as a “homecoming” that restores a classic element of the Aurthohin sound.
To bolster the new line-up, the band has also recruited Adnan Atiq on guitars and keyboards, while Sheikh M. Reaz joins as a guest drummer to fill the void left by Mark Don.

“The Soul Remains the Same”
Despite the revolving door of members—a recurring theme in the history of the band led by the resilient Sumon, affectionately known as Bassbaba—the group remains optimistic. In their official statement, the band reassured their “Freaks” (the moniker for their devoted fans) that while faces may change, the “soul of Aurthohin remains unchanged.”
The band is currently preparing to return to the studio to record new material and is rehearsing for a string of upcoming live performances. They promised a return to the stage with the “familiar chaos and melody” that has defined their career for over two decades.
