Meghdol Marks 23 Years, New Music Follows Eid

Bangladesh’s renowned band Meghdol celebrated its 23rd anniversary on 22 January, marking more than two decades of musical innovation and influence. To commemorate this milestone, the band has announced a special solo concert and the forthcoming release of three new songs, which will complete their third studio album, Aluminium-er Dana.

The upcoming tracks, titled Carnival, Bagh, and Tare Kothay Khujhe Pai, have completed recording, while video production is currently underway. Shibu Kumar Shil, Meghdol’s lead vocalist and lyricist, told Prothom Alo, “These three songs are a special celebration of our 23 years, and they will ultimately serve as the final additions to our new album. Carnival features my vocals, lyrics, and composition. Bagh and Tare Kothay Khujhe Pai were written and composed by Suman (Mezbaur Rahman). Bagh will be released first, followed by the other two tracks.”

Regarding the anniversary plans, Shil added, “We celebrated our 20th year in grand style. This year’s event will be smaller in scale, but we are planning a special concert after Eid. Next year, for our 25th anniversary, we intend to release a live album, and preparations for that will begin soon.”

Meghdol’s previous releases from Aluminium-er Dana have been widely acclaimed. Their 2022 single E Hawa gained significant popularity and was featured in Suman’s film Hawa. The album’s title track was released in August 2023, while earlier that year, in March, the band contributed Bonbibi to Coke Studio Bangla’s second season.
