Rosé has officially made history at the Grammy Awards.
The 28-year-old singer, best known as a member of global K-pop phenomenon Blackpink, has become the first K-pop idol to earn nominations in two of the Grammys’ prestigious general field categories — the main six awards that include Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) and Songwriter of the Year (Non-Classical).
Rosé and her collaborator Bruno Mars scored nominations for both Record of the Year — which honours the overall recording — and Song of the Year, which recognises songwriting. The pair also received a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit single APT, which has become one of the year’s defining pop releases.
“I’m getting chills right now,” Rosé told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year when asked about the possibility of making history at the Grammys.
“I think it’ll be a moment that proves to myself so many things I grew up doubting,” she said. “If this happens, it’s going to mean so much more to so many people beyond myself. It’ll be a moment of celebration for everyone who believes.”
Earlier in the year, Rosé also took home Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards for APT, which spent an impressive 45 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The track serves as the lead single from her debut solo album Rosie, released in December 2024, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Rosé’s recognition at the Grammys represents a major milestone for K-pop’s growing influence in the United States. Alongside her nominations, the animated project KPop Demon Hunters also received several nods, signalling the genre’s expanding cultural reach.
Supergroup BTS first opened the door for K-pop artists at the Grammys in 2021 with their nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Dynamite. Since then, K-pop’s presence on the global stage has only strengthened, with the newly formed international girl group KATSEYE — created through K-pop training methods under Hybe and Geffen Records — also earning two nominations this year.
Rosé’s historic nominations not only affirm her status as one of the most influential figures in modern pop but also mark a defining moment in K-pop’s continued rise within global music’s highest echelons.
