Iconic Bangladeshi heavy metal pioneers Warfaze are experiencing a monumental phase in their illustrious career. Following their historic achievement as the first musical band to receive the Ekushey Padak—Bangladesh’s second-highest civilian award—alongside a prestigious global endorsement from the brand Zippo, the band has officially broken a 14-year hiatus by announcing their eighth studio album.
To mark this milestone, Warfaze released “Girgiti”, the lead single from the upcoming album, at a gala event held at a capital club. Written jointly by Shams Mansoor Ghani and K.M. Imranul Haque Ritul, the track features visual production and arrangement by Upstudio Production House. In a unique cross-media collaboration, “Girgiti” will also serve as the title track for an upcoming film of the same name, directed by Sourav Kundu and starring ABM Sumon and Purnima Brishti. Although the film’s production commenced in 2019 and faced prolonged delays, the filmmakers announced plans to resume shooting shortly.
Reflecting on the demanding nature of the project, Warfaze vocalist Palash Noor expressed deep gratitude towards his bandmates:
“For us, music is storytelling, and this song is no different. Creating a track for a film is immensely challenging due to the specific cinematic vision required. At one point, I doubted my ability to deliver, but the band’s collective encouragement kept me going. Hearing the final master made all the hardship worthwhile; I consider this the finest work of my career so far.”
Despite the single’s release, the title of the eighth album remains under wraps. Band leader and legendary drummer Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu clarified that Warfaze traditionally finalises album titles only after the completion of all tracks, maintaining a collaborative decision-making process.
In tandem with their new music, Warfaze is set to achieve another historic landmark by embarking on their first-ever concert tour of the United Kingdom. Spanning a 42-year legacy, this debut British tour will see the band performing across multiple cities. A headline appearance is scheduled for 19 July at London’s prestigious venue, The Royal Regency, as part of the “Bangla Fest & Award UK”.
The band is scheduled to depart Dhaka for the United Kingdom immediately, with a return planned for 23 July. Upon their repatriation, Warfaze will pivot straight back to the domestic stage. On 2 August, they are slated to perform a solo concert titled “Playlist Tribute to Originals” at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Organised by Brandmyth and Mars & Co., the highly anticipated event will feature a special segment paying tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
