Ronti Das Wins Dhallywood Honour and Plans Music School

Bangladeshi singer Ronti Das has won the Best Female Melody Singer award at the Dhallywood Awards 2026, held in the United States, adding another notable achievement to her musical career. Renowned singer Rizia Parveen presented the award to Das at the ceremony, recognising her contribution to Bengali music across several genres.

Das first came to public attention in 2006 through the popular televised singing competition Closeup One: Tomakei Khujchhe Bangladesh. The programme provided a platform for emerging singers to reach a wider audience, and her participation marked an important turning point in her career. Since then, she has built a presence in modern Bengali music, folk songs and film playback singing, developing a distinctive vocal identity that has helped her connect with listeners.

Film music has been an important part of Das’s professional journey. She has lent her voice to several Bangladeshi films, including Shuvo Bibaho, Khoj: The Search, Kortitto, The Speed, Ostroproyog and Bostir Chhele Kotipoti. Her recognised songs include ‘Dekho Amar Khushite’, ‘Hello Brishti’, ‘Hridoy Jekhane’, ‘Rong’, ‘Uralia’, ‘Dakati’, ‘Bahar Bari’, ‘Ekela’ and ‘Abhimani’. Her work across different musical styles reflects the range of her repertoire and her continued involvement in Bengali music.

Born in Chattogram, Das developed an interest in music from an early age. Support from her family helped her pursue that interest. Her father, Subal Kanti Das, was a businessman, while her mother, Lucky Rani Das, worked for a multinational company.

Das now lives in New York, where she is planning to expand her involvement in music education alongside her artistic activities. Her proposed initiative, Ronti’s Music Kitchen, is intended to offer structured lessons in a range of Bengali and South Asian musical traditions. The planned curriculum includes classical music, Nazrul Geeti, Rabindra Sangeet, patriotic songs, modern Bengali music and folk music. Specialised vocal training is also expected to form part of the programme.

The proposed institution aims to make music education accessible through both online classes and in-person teaching. Das also plans to provide free music lessons for children with special needs, an initiative that would extend learning opportunities to children who may face barriers to accessing conventional music education.

By combining different musical traditions with practical vocal training, the project seeks to encourage a new generation of learners to develop their musical interests. Its online provision could also help students access lessons beyond the immediate New York area, while in-person classes would offer opportunities for direct instruction.

The award marks a fresh milestone in Das’s career, which began with a televised competition and has since encompassed modern songs, folk music and film soundtracks. As she prepares to pursue her plans for music education, she also hopes to contribute to the wider promotion of Bangladeshi music and culture internationally. Her latest recognition and proposed teaching initiative reflect two complementary aspects of her work: continuing her own musical journey and creating opportunities for others to learn and appreciate music.
