Theatres feature major stars and films from acclaimed directors, while OTT platforms are buzzing with new content. In addition to new movies and series, the latest seasons of popular shows are also releasing. This December, here is a guide to domestic and international films and series awaiting release in cinemas and OTT platforms.
Domestic
‘Omimangsito’, iScreen
Finally, the mystery of ‘Omimangsito’ is unveiled, with the film directed by Raihan Rafi releasing on iScreen on 11 December. A journalist couple is murdered in their home. Who committed the crime and for what purpose forms the plot of this web film. The film was initially scheduled for release on 29 February last year but was delayed due to objections from the censor board. Imtiaz Barshan and Tanjika Amin star in the two main roles.
‘Noor’, Bioscope Plus
The film starring Arifini Shuvo and Jannatul Aish has been discussed for several years. Directed by Raihan Rafi, it will release on the OTT platform Bioscope Plus on 10 December at night. The 42-second teaser shows Shuvo nearly going mad after losing his lover Aish, and then seen in captivity. Most of the romantic scenes were shot in Pabna.
‘Dimlight’, Chorki
Mosharraf Karim stars in ‘Dimlight’, which portrays a deep crisis behind the humour. Sharaf Ahmed plays a stand-up comedian. Tanjika Amin and Parsa Ivana also feature. It will be streamed on Chorki in the second week of December, though the exact date is not yet confirmed. The co-producer is Chobial. This is the sixth film in Chorki’s Ministry of Love project.
‘Khiladi’, Theatres
Releasing on 12 December, starring Zara Zaman and Shahen Shah, directed by Md. Shafiullah. Other actors include Nana Shah, Ujjal, Eva Rahman, Shamsul Hadi, Akash, Ali, Anwar Hossain, and Tanvir Sheikh. Songs feature vocals by Belly Afroze, Mom Rahman, and Sharmin Akhtar, with music directed by Tania Ahid.
‘Ekhane Rajnoitik Alap Joruri’, Theatres
The film releases on 19 December. Ahmed Hasan, known for songs like ‘Shaharer Duita Gaan’, ‘Hoyto Amra’, ‘Manush Keno E Rokom’, and ‘Kemne Ki’, now directs a full-length feature. Imtiaz Barshan plays the lead, with Azad Abul Kalam, Tanvir Apu, A K Azad Setu, and Keya Alam in supporting roles. Story and screenplay by Khalid Mahmud.
International
‘The Piece of Confession’, Netflix
A mysterious stranger approaches a woman accused of murdering her husband and offers her a chance to escape, on one condition—she must commit another murder. Directed by Lee Jong-hee. Starring Jieun Do-yun, Kim Go-eun, Park Hae-soo, and Jin Seon-kyu. Releases 5 December.
‘Eras Tour: The End of an Era’, Disney Plus
A six-episode documentary on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, featuring unreleased footage, mashup songs, and stories about Swift’s preparations and her romance with Travis Kelce. The first two episodes release 12 December.
‘Thama’, Amazon Prime Video
A new horror-comedy film from Madok Films universe. Following its theatrical release in October, it will now appear on OTT. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the story features vampires. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the main antagonist. Releases 16 December.
‘Emily in Paris 5’, Netflix
Emily, a marketing executive from Chicago, is sent to Paris. In a new city, she navigates French culture, office politics, and romantic complications while carving her own path. The fifth season releases 18 December. Lily Collins stars as the lead.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, Theatres
Jake Sully and Neytiri were living peacefully on Pandora until a new tribe arrives, sparking conflict. The third installment of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ franchise. Starring Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang. Global release on 19 December, simultaneously in Dhaka.
‘Stranger Things 5’, Netflix
The first four episodes of the fifth and final season released on 27 November. The next three episodes release on 25 December, with the final episode on 31 December. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed all mysteries will be resolved. Starring Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, and Millie Bobby Brown.
