Lady Gaga and Doechii have released a collaborative single, “Runway”, accompanied by a fashion-focused music video issued on Monday, 27 April. The track is the first piece of music unveiled from the forthcoming The Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack. It was written by Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Jaylah Hickmon, Andrew Watt, Henry Walter, Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and Jayda Love.
Directed by Parris Goebel, the video opens with the two performers appearing stitched into a single oversized red blazer, styled with matching black ties, white shirts and straight hair. They deliver the opening line in unison: “No matter what, no matter what / You got to strut.” The visual presentation establishes a stylised, high-fashion aesthetic that continues throughout.
The video progresses into a sequence of avant-garde fashion imagery, with Lady Gaga performing lyrics including: “Walk, I’m feeling fab / I’m feeling free, I feel exceptionally me.” The production incorporates themes of self-presentation, visibility and performance, set within a fashion-show-inspired environment. The artists later appear in coordinated 18th-century-inspired ballgowns, complemented by dramatic make-up and deliberately asymmetrical hairstyles.
Doechii delivers a pre-chorus verse focused on runway performance and audience engagement, with lyrics referencing fashion shows and dance-floor transformation. Both artists subsequently perform together, emphasising the concept of turning everyday spaces into personal runways. The video concludes with a reprise of the central refrain, asserting that they were “born for the runway”.
The collaboration marks the first joint release between Lady Gaga and Doechii. Prior to this, both artists had publicly expressed admiration for each other’s work. In an interview with British Vogue in July 2025, Lady Gaga stated that she had “fell in love” with Doechii’s music, describing her songwriting as “immediately legendary”. In response, Doechii said she was “the biggest Lady Gaga fan” and described the praise as validating.
The video also contains references to The Devil Wears Prada 2, including the use of the title “Runway”, which corresponds to the fictional fashion magazine featured in the film. One scene shows the performers holding a magazine bearing the name, with the character Emily Charlton, portrayed by Emily Blunt, on the cover.
The sequel film reunites original cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also return, following their work on the 2006 adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s novel. The new instalment continues the narrative involving Andy Sachs, played by Hathaway, and Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Streep, set against developments in the contemporary fashion and media industries.
