Renowned New York City artist Joan As Police Woman has unveiled a live performance video for her celebrated track “Anyone”, following the release of another intimate rendition, “The Ride”.
These performances are part of the “The Real Life Anniversary Sessions”, a series of videos commemorating the 20th anniversary of her acclaimed debut album Real Life, originally released via UK independent label Reveal Records. The sessions offer fans a personal, close-up experience of Joan Wasser—known professionally as Joan As Police Woman since 2004—delivering her unique blend of soul, jazz, and folk influences.
Wasser, a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer, has built a reputation for defying categorisation, producing a distinctive sound across her ten original albums, two cover albums, and a comprehensive anthology. Her career has also been marked by prolific collaborations with a wide array of artists, including Tony Allen, Lou Reed, Anohni, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale, David Byrne, Damon Albarn, and many others. She also features on Gorillaz’ Song Machine and currently tours with Iggy Pop’s band, contributing vocals and keys.
The new live videos were recorded on 11 November 2025 at The Owl Music Parlor, New York, and showcase a stripped-down yet emotionally resonant performance. Wasser is accompanied by fellow NYC musicians Will Graefe (guitar, vocals) and Jeremy Gustin (drums, vocals).
“I wanted to take ‘Anyone’ out of its original 6/8 triplet-based soul ballad territory,” Wasser explains. “Will, Jeremy, and I have been developing a new sound since we began touring in October 2024. This arrangement emerged quickly when we shifted it towards an exploratory folk-jazz style, reminiscent of Van Morrison.”
Fans can anticipate more opportunities to experience these anniversary sessions live, as Joan As Police Woman embarks on a series of performances across the US and Europe in 2026.
