Coke Studio Pakistan has unveiled an ambitious sub-platform named ‘Nu.Wave’, designed to usher in a fresh era for the country’s music scene by spotlighting independent youth talent and alternative soundscapes. Set to launch in September, Nu.Wave will debut with six track releases featuring collaborative works between mainstream stars and emerging underground artists.
Since its inception in 2008, Coke Studio Pakistan has grown into a cultural juggernaut, spanning 15 successful seasons and producing nearly 350 tracks. The platform has broadcasted Pakistani heritage, Sufi Qawwali, classical folk, and modern fusion music to audiences across more than 180 countries. While traditional Coke Studio productions focused on lavish, studio-bound live ensemble arrangements blending heritage music with contemporary pop and rock, Nu.Wave departs from this established framework.
The new project embraces the bedroom-pop ethos and modern home-studio production methods preferred by today’s digital-first generation. Instead of imposing rigid studio arrangements, Nu.Wave provides young musicians with total creative autonomy, allowing them to compose and produce music independently using digital audio workstations on their own terms. Popular music director Kamal Khan, who leads the initiative, confirmed that the platform’s primary mandate is to protect the raw artistic freedom of young creators without dictating artistic rules.
The talent lineup brings together widely recognized names alongside newly discovered voices. Established figures involved in the initiative include Asim Azhar, Hasan Raheem, Shae Gill—who achieved international acclaim with the viral hit Pasoori—and the hip-hop duo Young Stunners. They perform alongside a cohort of fresh talent, including Aryan SDK, Afmusic, Ezz Chughtai, Maanu, Sabat Batin, and Zoha Waseem.
The emerging artists were selected through a nationwide open submission portal where thousands of aspiring musicians submitted their original tracks and performances. From this extensive pool, curators selected the most promising acts to produce six collaborative tracks: Maheya, Dil, Rangeen, Qasam, Shabnam, and Ae Deewane Ae Dil.
By pairing established hitmakers with indie producers, Nu.Wave aims to reflect the changing listening habits of younger audiences while offering independent artists a global distribution network. The initiative marks a strategic shift for Pakistani music production, establishing a dedicated incubator for experimental genres and bedroom-produced electronic pop alongside traditional heritage music.
