Charli XCX Teases ‘Rock Music’ Track

Charli XCX has shared brief studio footage offering a preview of an upcoming song titled Rock Music, recorded during sessions for her next studio album.

The black-and-white clip, filmed in October, shows her working in a Paris studio alongside producer A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, both of whom also collaborated on her 2024 album Brat. In the footage, Charli XCX discusses the concept for the track, stating, “It would be cool if we could have a song that was called ‘Rock Music’,” before the trio experiment with early musical ideas.

The video also includes a glimpse of an iPhone Notes page in which she sketches lyrical content for the song. The text reads: “Me and my friends / We go out / We take pictures together / We sometimes cry / We kiss each other incestous vibes.” In her accompanying caption, she clarifies the concept of the track, writing: “a video of me making a song called ‘rock music’ that is not actually rock music which is funny because i never said i was making a rock album. love you xx”.

The teaser follows recent comments from her team confirming that she has been completing work on her next album. In an interview with Vogue, Charli XCX remarked: “I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music.” In the same interview, she stated she wanted to avoid producing a direct continuation of Brat, adding: “If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad. What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”

Her 2024 album Brat became a significant cultural release, widely discussed for its impact and the emergence of “Brat Summer”. Since then, Charli XCX has continued to expand her creative output across film, television, and music projects.
