A two-minute-and-twenty-two-second teaser released by the international broadcaster Deutsche Welle has placed Bangladeshi musician and actor Masha Islam at the centre of widespread public attention. Shared via the digital channels of DW Travel, the clip features Masha alongside German journalist and presenter Emma Cramer as they explore iconic landmarks in Dhaka, showcasing Bangladesh as a vibrant and frequently overlooked destination for global travellers.
The initial footage, which quickly garnered thousands of reactions and positive commentary from audiences praising Masha’s natural presenting style, serves as a preview for a comprehensive travel and cultural series. Masha was approached by the network to co-host a ten-part documentary project designed for both DW Travel and DW Bangla. Across the series, she guides viewers through the nation’s diverse landscapes, deep-rooted history, and cultural heritage, delivering the narrative in both English and Bengali to bridge local stories with an international audience.
For Masha, who has long documented her domestic travels on social media, the assignment transformed a personal passion into a major international milestone. The production crew journeyed far beyond the capital’s historic sites—including Ahsan Manzil and Lalbagh Fort—to capture the natural beauty and local traditions of Sylhet, Sreemangal, and Cox’s Bazar. Describing the assignment as one of the most memorable chapters of her life, Masha noted that representing her country’s culture on a global platform offered a deeply fulfilling professional and personal experience.
This international collaboration builds upon a steadily expanding creative career. Masha first entered the public eye in 2015 by sharing online cover songs, eventually catching the attention of mainstream composers and building a successful portfolio in film playback with popular tracks like Teka Pakhi, Ekto Khani Mon, and Jete Jete. Earlier this year, she expanded her artistic range by making her acting debut in Tanim Noor’s Eid release Banalata Express.
Looking forward, Masha is actively balancing multiple creative ventures. She is currently finalising tracks for her upcoming debut album of original songs and remains open to future television commercial and acting opportunities. While professional commitments have temporarily delayed her long-standing ambition to launch an independent travel vlogging channel, her recent collaboration with Deutsche Welle highlights how organic beginnings on social media can pave the way for international recognition.
