Following a notable hiatus, Asif Akbar—affectionately revered as the undisputed prince of Bangladeshi pop music—has made a triumphant return to the music scene with his latest track, ‘Bhule Gechi Tomake’ (I Have Forgotten You). Steeped in themes of unrequited love, heartbreak, and emotional alienation, the newly released single has already ignited widespread interest amongst his massive fanbase and music enthusiasts alike.
The track reunites Asif with long-time collaborator and composer Rajesh Ghosh, a musical partnership responsible for some of the most iconic hits in modern Bengali pop history. Written by lyricist Snehashish Ghosh, the poignant lyrics delve into the bitter realistic acceptance of romantic betrayal: “You have fallen from my heart, I have forgotten you; there is no such thing as love, I learned after being deceived.” The musical arrangement has been crafted by MMP Roni, giving the melancholic melody a contemporary touch while retaining the classic emotive punch that characterises Asif’s distinct vocal delivery.
An accompanying music video, directed by Yamin Elan and featuring the singer himself, was officially released on the RR Music YouTube channel. The visual narrative complements the track’s reflective mood, offering fans a familiar look at the singer performing with his signature intensity.
Speaking on the launch, Asif expressed deep satisfaction with the collaboration: “It feels remarkable to sing to Rajesh Ghosh’s composition after such a long period. He has composed some of the most memorable tracks of my career, and our artistic understanding spans many years. I sincerely hope our audience finds resonance in this new project and that it lives up to their expectations.”
Asif’s debut album, O Priya Tumi Kothay, released in 2001, achieved unprecedented commercial success in Bangladesh, catapulting him to stardom and establishing a lasting legacy in the Bengali audio industry. Over the decades, his powerful vocal register and versatility have secured his position as one of the country’s most enduring musical icons.
Alongside the release of the new track, the singer is preparing for an international engagement. He is scheduled to perform in South Korea at the upcoming ‘Bangladesh Festival 2026’, organised by the Incheon Bangladesh Community in Korea (IBCK). The event aims to bring cultural performances to the Bangladeshi diaspora residing in the country, marking another major milestone in Asif’s celebrated career.
