Young Bangladeshi musician Ahmed Zaki is preparing for the next chapter of his musical journey following the unexpected success of his debut song, ‘Mayabi’. The track, released by his band Blue Touch Bangladesh in April 2022, quickly attracted attention from listeners and gave the newly formed group a strong start.
Zaki founded Blue Touch Bangladesh in November 2021. Just a few months later, the band released its first song, ‘Mayabi’. Although the group had expectations for its debut, the response from listeners turned out to be far greater than Zaki had anticipated.
Speaking about the song’s reception, Zaki said artists naturally have a certain level of expectation when they release their work. He also had hopes for ‘Mayabi’, but the public response was quite different from what he had imagined. The amount of affection and appreciation the song received, he said, was beyond his expectations.
Despite the popularity of ‘Mayabi’, Zaki himself has not necessarily become as widely recognised as the song. However, he does not regard that as a source of disappointment. According to the musician, he has never made a particular effort to put himself at the centre of attention or extensively promote his personal identity.
For Zaki, the fact that people have connected with something he created is more meaningful. He described the experience of seeing audiences embrace his work as one of the most beautiful feelings he has experienced as an artist.
The inspiration behind ‘Mayabi’ is also rooted in imagination rather than a particular individual. Asked who the mysterious ‘Mayabi’ was, Zaki explained that the song was written by imagining a fictional character.
He spoke about the human ability to imagine different identities and situations. In his view, someone can imagine themselves as a completely different character without any real-world consequence. That freedom of imagination became part of the creative process behind ‘Mayabi’. The character in the song, therefore, was not based on a specific person but emerged from Zaki’s own imagination.
While ‘Mayabi’ marked the beginning of Blue Touch Bangladesh’s recorded musical journey, the band is now working on its second album. Zaki, who serves as the band’s founder and vocalist, said work on the project has already progressed considerably.
The upcoming album has been titled ‘Omimangshito’, meaning ‘Unresolved’. Zaki expects that it may take around another month to complete the remaining work. The album will feature six songs, although no specific release date was given in the interview.
The project represents the band’s next major body of work after the response to its debut song. For Zaki, however, his ambitions extend beyond the success of any individual release. His plans for his musical career remain straightforward: he wants to continue writing and performing songs while reaching audiences with the thoughts and ideas expressed through his music.
“I want to keep making music, keep singing and take my thoughts to people,” he said, outlining the direction he hopes to maintain in the years ahead.
Zaki has also entered a new phase of his personal life this year after getting married. Describing the experience, he said the new chapter had brought new emotions and a different kind of happiness.
He considers finding the right person in life a special blessing and said he is enjoying that experience. According to Zaki, married life has been progressing with a sense of calm and warmth, and overall he is happy with the way the new chapter has begun.
For now, much of his attention remains focused on music and the completion of ‘Omimangshito’. After making an impression with ‘Mayabi’ at the very beginning of Blue Touch Bangladesh’s journey, Ahmed Zaki is now preparing to present six new songs to listeners as the band moves into its next phase.
