Popular Bangladeshi singer, composer and music arranger Bappa Mazumder is set to return to the concert stage with a solo musical evening in Dhaka. Titled ‘Moonlit Melodies’, the event will take place on 9 October at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital, where Mazumder is expected to perform a selection of songs from his extensive career.
The concert is being organised by event management company Mavix Global. The organisation has previously arranged several music events, including the student-focused concert ‘Gonojowar’ at the Hatirjheel Amphitheatre, along with other musical programmes.
Mazumder announced the upcoming concert on 13 September by sharing its poster on his Facebook page. In the post, he asked his fans and listeners to save the date. According to information from the organisers, the setlist is expected to include several of his popular songs, including ‘Pori’, ‘Baji’ and ‘Din Bari Jay’.
Tickets for the event have not yet gone on sale. Mavix Global has said that details about ticket prices, purchasing procedures, the concert schedule and other arrangements will be announced soon. Until then, fans are awaiting the organisers’ next announcement.
The concert is particularly significant in the context of Mazumder’s career because, although he regularly performs on stage with his band Dalchhut, solo concerts centred entirely on his own work have been comparatively less frequent. Mazumder is the frontman of Dalchhut and has also established himself as a solo singer, composer and music arranger.
He held a solo concert in 2022. In 2024, Karkhana Event Management and Blues Communication jointly organised another solo concert by the artist, titled ‘Odyssey’. At that event, Mazumder performed some of his well-known songs alongside tracks he had composed for the film Satta.
Another solo concert featuring Mazumder was held at the Yamaha Music Lounge in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on 12 July last year. This year, on 12 July, a special musical evening was arranged at Jatrabiriti in Banani to honour his three-decade journey in music. Although it was not a solo concert by Mazumder himself, eight singers from the younger generation performed his songs as a tribute to his contribution to the music scene.
Mazumder’s career extends well beyond singing. He has worked extensively as a composer and arranger, with a number of prominent Bangladeshi singers recording songs composed by him. Fahmida Nabi, Samina Chowdhury, Nancy, Kona, Elita and Konal are among the artists who have performed his compositions.
His work has also featured prominently in film music. Artists including James, Momtaz, Samina Chowdhury, Partha Barua and Kona have lent their voices to songs composed by Mazumder for films. His ability to move between singing, composition and arrangement has made him a distinctive figure in Bangladesh’s contemporary music landscape.
Mazumder has continued to collaborate with leading artists while producing his own music. Last year, he joined legendary singer Runa Laila on ‘Anayase’, a ghazal-style song that brought together two generations of Bangladeshi music. More recently, on 22 August, he released ‘Gole Jawa Shomoy’, a song for which he handled the lyrics, composition and musical arrangement himself.
‘Moonlit Melodies’ will therefore offer audiences an opportunity to experience Mazumder’s music in a concert devoted primarily to his own repertoire. With a career spanning roughly three decades and a body of work that includes performances, compositions and arrangements, the October event is expected to bring several familiar songs together on one stage.
For listeners who have followed Mazumder’s journey through Dalchhut as well as his solo work, the concert will be another chance to hear his songs performed live in a dedicated setting.
