Alauddin Ali was born on 24 December 1952 in the serene village of Banshbari, located in the Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj district. Born to Ostad Jadab Ali and Zohra Khatun, his childhood was bathed in musical traditions. When he was just eighteen months old, his family moved to the AGB Colony in Motijheel, Dhaka, where he grew up alongside three brothers and two sisters.

His formal initiation into music came under the watchful tutelage of his paternal uncle, Sadek Ali. Showing a natural flair for rhythm and harmony from an early age, Ali mastered various musical instruments, demonstrating a particular brilliance with the violin.

By his adolescence, Ali’s exceptional talent secured him entry into the competitive realm of film music. He began his professional journey in 1968 as an instrumentalist. In these early years, he honed his technique while working as an associate to the iconic composer Shaheed Altaf Mahmud. He subsequently collaborated for a substantial period with another distinguished music director, Anwar Parvez. This comprehensive apprenticeship provided the foundational bedrock for his distinct, innovative style.
