A violent armed robbery and alleged abduction inside a recording studio in Dallas, Texas, has sent shockwaves through the international music industry, drawing attention to what federal authorities describe as a carefully orchestrated criminal operation involving several high-profile rap figures, including Gucci Mane, who was reportedly present during the incident.
According to an official statement released by the United States Department of Justice, the episode at a modern recording facility in Dallas on 10 January was not a spontaneous outbreak of violence but rather a premeditated armed assault designed to intimidate musicians and extract financial and contractual concessions.
Investigators allege that the victims—three music industry figures—were invited to the studio under the pretence of a “contract review meeting” arranged by Poo Shiesty. Upon arrival, they were reportedly confronted by armed individuals who quickly escalated the situation into a coordinated takeover of the premises.
Prosecutors claim that multiple gunmen held the victims at gunpoint and coerced them into signing documents under duress. The assailants allegedly stole luxury watches, including Rolex timepieces, expensive jewellery, cash, and other valuables. One victim is said to have been physically assaulted and briefly choked into unconsciousness during the ordeal.
A further allegation highlights the role of perimeter control. Big30 is accused of positioning himself at the studio entrance to prevent anyone from entering or leaving, effectively isolating the victims and blocking access to outside assistance.
Authorities also allege that the father of Poo Shiesty, identified as Lontrell Williams Senior, participated in the planning and facilitation of the attack. Investigators further note that Poo Shiesty was under house arrest in Florida at the time due to a separate firearms-related case, yet allegedly breached those conditions to travel to Texas and take part in the operation.
Within hours of the incident, several suspects reportedly shared images of stolen items on social media, which investigators later used as key evidence in building the case. Coordinated arrests across Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville have since led to eight arrests out of nine suspects identified.
The Department of Justice has stated that, if convicted, the defendants could face life imprisonment. U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould emphasised that criminal conduct disguised as professional or business activity would be met with strict enforcement, describing the case as a warning to the wider industry.
Summary of Alleged Roles
| Name | Identity | Alleged Role |
|---|---|---|
| Poo Shiesty | Lontrell Williams Jr. | Alleged organiser who lured victims to the studio |
| Big30 | Rodney Lamont Wright Jr. | Alleged perimeter security to restrict movement and escape |
| Unidentified associates | Various | Armed intimidation, robbery, and coercion |
| Lontrell Williams Sr. | Father of Poo Shiesty | Alleged involvement in planning and execution |
The investigation remains ongoing, with prosecutors indicating that the case will proceed swiftly through the federal court system. Authorities argue that the incident exposes troubling intersections between elements of the music industry and organised criminal activity, raising broader concerns about security and exploitation within creative spaces.
