Kusum Sikdar, a cherished name among music enthusiasts of the 1990s, has made a striking return to the world of music after a hiatus of nearly nine years. Her latest release, Hera Hote Hele Dule, composed and written by the legendary Kazi Nazrul Islam, marks a new chapter in her musical journey. This song is her first release since 2017’s Nesha, ending a long period of absence from the public eye.
Speaking about her comeback, Kusum said, “Nazrul Sangeet has always been at the core of my musical identity. Returning with this song brings me immense joy. The music video was produced using AI technology, which is a wonderful way to integrate modern tools with traditional music.”
The music video was directed by Faridur Reza Sagar and conceptualised by Shaikh Siraj under the banner of Impress Telefilm. It premiered on Channel i before being made available on the channel’s digital platform, allowing audiences to engage with the work across multiple formats.
Kusum has received formal training in Nazrul Sangeet and classical music from the Nazrul Academy, which has equipped her to perform Naat-e-Rasul songs with ease and authenticity.
Alongside her musical return, Kusum has completed work on her first web series, Pap Kahini 2, directed by Shahriar Nazim Joy. The series is a complex tale of love, betrayal, and revenge, following the narrative of its predecessor, Pap Kahini, which premiered last year.
Reflecting on her first experience with OTT platforms, Kusum remarked, “The medium is secondary; what matters is giving your best to the character. Working with Joy, whom I know well, made the shooting process smooth. I always choose projects selectively and limit my roles to ensure that each character brings something fresh.”
She added that dubbing for the series is set to begin shortly, with the possibility of its release on the iScreen platform during the upcoming Ramadan Eid. While she refrained from revealing plot details, she expressed hope that viewers will experience a high-quality, engaging web series.
