Chanchal Chowdhury Debuts as Playback Singer

Renowned for his acting prowess, Chanchal Chowdhury has long captivated audiences and critics alike with his versatile performances. Now, the actor is set to unveil a new facet of his talent in the Bengali film industry, making his playback singing debut in Kolkata’s Tollywood. The upcoming film Shekhor, directed by Bratya Basu, features Chanchal lending his voice for the very first time.

Production house Friends Communication announced via social media that Chanchal has recorded two songs for the film, with music composed by Prabuddha Banerjee. Behind-the-scenes images from the studio show Chanchal rehearsing, highlighting his meticulous approach to this new undertaking. “Shekhor is a timeless love story envisioned by Bratya Basu,” the producers explained, “and Chanchal’s debut as a playback singer adds a fresh dimension to Tollywood.”

Chanchal revealed that the songs are reinterpretations of two celebrated Baul compositions. The first is Bijoy Sarkar’s “Ei Prithibi Jemon Ache Temni Thik Robe”, while the second is Goshtho Gopal Das’s “O Jibon Re Chhariya Na Jao More”. According to Chanchal, he suggested these tracks to integrate organically with the narrative: “During shooting, I felt the story would gain depth with these songs. With the director’s approval, I proposed both tracks, and Bratya Basu insisted I sing them myself. After the dubbing sessions, I recorded my voice for both pieces.”

The film’s narrative is deeply emotional, adapted from Drabomoyeer Kashibash and Dadu. Chanchal portrays Indra, a factory worker grappling with his father’s memory disorder—a condition Chanchal has personally connected with due to familial experience, lending the role an added layer of authenticity.

Filming concluded in October last year, featuring a cast including Lokanath De, Seema Biswas, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Riddhi Sen, Angana Roy, and Anusua Majumdar. This marks Chanchal’s first collaboration with Bratya Basu in Tollywood, following Basu’s earlier projects with Mosharraf Karim, namely Dictionary and Hubba. The film is slated for release later in 2026.
