Popular star Tahsan announced around six weeks ago that he would be stepping away from singing. Prior to that, he had declared a break from acting and deactivated his social media accounts, which collectively had millions of followers. Amidst this hiatus, rumours began circulating that Tahsan might soon join a political party and could even contest the next parliamentary elections. At the time, he had requested people to avoid speculation. However, at a festival inauguration in Dhaka, Tahsan unexpectedly addressed the issue of potential political involvement.
Speaking candidly about stepping back from music, acting, and social media, Tahsan clarified his position. There were even rumours linking him to a religion-based political party, but he finally broke his silence on the matter. Tahsan said, “When I announced my decision to leave singing during my Melbourne concert in Australia, there were very few people present. I never imagined it would spread across the country this way. Just as I gradually took a break from acting, I am taking a step back from music. I am an emotional, poetic person, and I spoke in such a way that it was misconstrued and spread widely. I even saw images of myself with a party hat, being associated with a political party, claiming that I was entering politics!”
He added that those spreading such rumours were motivated by the desire to go viral. “I see it as part of the game, like a play. Today, some people are obsessed with going viral. It’s happening all over the world. That’s why we must think carefully about what we say and how it could be interpreted,” he said.
Currently, Tahsan wishes to focus on his studies. “Every person has different phases in life. In the first phase, you feel you know nothing. In the second, you feel you know everything. I had reached that stage. Recently, I have realised that I know almost nothing about life and the world. I need to study much more,” he explained.
Tahsan has also withdrawn from social media, including his Facebook page with millions of followers and Instagram account with 3.5 million followers. He explained, “People on leave do not need these platforms. Social media is extremely toxic. The negativity spreads faster than positivity, which has been very frustrating for a long time. I want people to gradually forget me. Staying on social media only prolongs the process of being forgotten.”
Fans have expressed sadness over his decision to step back from music and acting, sharing their reactions online. Addressing this, Tahsan said, “Honestly, it hurts me the most. The music I have loved more than life itself—leaving it behind was not an easy decision. But certain experiences and realisations in life were so intense and poignant that stepping away became the only path available to me. I just want to return to a simple, ordinary life.”
