Tyler Ramsey, the acclaimed singer-songwriter and distinctive fingerstyle guitarist, has unveiled his latest musical venture with the release of his collaborative album Celestun, alongside My Morning Jacket guitarist Carl Broemel. Known for his rich catalogue rooted in modern folk and indie rock, Ramsey honed his signature sound in the mountainous landscapes of western North Carolina, drawing inspiration from local folk traditions and itinerant country blues musicians.
Ramsey first rose to prominence as lead guitarist and songwriter with Band of Horses, contributing to three critically acclaimed albums: Infinite Arms (2010), Mirage Rock (2012), and Why Are You OK? (2016). Alongside this, he cultivated a parallel solo career, releasing A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea (2008) and The Valley Wind (2011), which showcased his deft fingerpicking and atmospheric compositions.
His subsequent solo releases, For The Morning (2019) and New Lost Ages (2024), continued this trajectory. New Lost Ages, produced by Phil Ek in Seattle and praised by Americana UK as an “indie-folk gem,” reflects Ramsey’s ongoing exploration of the intersection between introspective songwriting and expansive sonic landscapes.
Celestun represents the culmination of over a decade of friendship and intermittent collaboration between Ramsey and Broemel. Initially conceived as an instrumental project, the sessions naturally evolved to incorporate vocals, including contributions from GRAMMY-nominated siblings The Secret Sisters. The album blends cinematic compositions such as Nevermind and Flying Things with a luminous reinterpretation of Neil Young’s Sail Away, balancing rustic acoustic textures with virtuosic instrumental passages. Critics note its echoes of iconic guitarists like Clarence White, John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Bert Jansch, while its overarching tone evokes intimate reflection, communal camaraderie, and a deep sense of wanderlust.
Following a successful UK tour in November 2024, which included a headline show in London and supporting Lissie at Union Chapel, Ramsey will return to the UK in spring 2026.
