Two Decades of Chircut’s Musical Journey

Bangladesh’s beloved band, Chirkut, has proudly completed two decades of musical journey since its inception in 2006. Founded and led by the versatile Sharmin Sultana Sumi—a lyricist, composer, music director, and vocalist—the band has been a pioneering force in contemporary Bengali music. Over the past twenty years, Chirkut has gifted audiences with numerous chart-topping songs, each carving a permanent place in the hearts of listeners. Their music not only entertains but also resonates deeply, reflecting the joys, sorrows, struggles, and dreams of everyday life.

Chirkut’s contribution to music has been recognised both nationally and internationally, earning the band several accolades. The year began on a high note as Chirkut kicked off their 2026 journey with concerts and awards. On 3 January, their performance in Sylhet captivated audiences with a seamless blend of melody and emotion. Shortly after, on 9 January, Chirkut was honoured for the third time as ‘Best Band’ at the 25th edition of the Dhallywood Film & Music Awards. This award recognised their song ‘Dami’ from the 2025 album ‘Bhalobashasamagra’. The entire band, led by Sumi, attended the ceremony to receive the accolade.

Reflecting on two decades of music, Sumi shared:
“Chirkut has always been in pursuit of new melodies and innovative compositions. We have supported each other to explore fresh musical avenues. Our songs mirror human emotions—joy, sorrow, love, and resilience. Performing Bengali music alongside international-standard bands worldwide fills us with immense pride. Above all, we hope Chirkut continues to remain a symbol of love and inspiration in the hearts of all.”

More than a band, Chirkut has become a musical family, nurturing young talent and providing a platform for emerging musicians to shine. Several gifted artists have honed their craft under Chirkut’s guidance. By performing abroad, the band has also contributed significantly to the global recognition of Bengali music and culture.

Currently, Chirkut is focused on their fifth studio album and continues to engage fans through regular concerts and new releases. The band’s 25th anniversary, or Silver Jubilee, will be celebrated next year with grand concerts, special events, and the launch of a new album.
