The Bangladesh Gonosangeet Coordination Council marked the arrival of the new Bengali year with a vibrant programme of music, dance, poetry, and theatre. The annual New Year’s event, titled “Oi Nutoner Keton Ore Kalboshokhir Jhor,” took place on Monday afternoon at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, drawing a diverse crowd eager to celebrate the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
The ceremony was chaired by Kazi Mizanur Rahman, President of the Gonosangeet Coordination Council, while Manjar Chowdhury, the General Secretary, delivered the welcome address. The event was hosted by Zorna Alamgir and Tarek Ali, who guided attendees through a meticulously curated programme showcasing both traditional and contemporary Bengali arts.
The festivities featured an eclectic mix of performances, including solo songs, group songs, solo recitations, group recitations, group dances, and street theatre. Street theatre, a unique and engaging component of the programme, was presented by Maitree Theatre, illustrating social themes through performance art.
