Taylor Swift Dominates ARIA Charts with ‘The Life of a Showgirl’

Taylor Swift continues to rule the ARIA Charts, as her album The Life of a Showgirl (via Republic/Universal) secures a fifth consecutive week at No. 1 on the national albums chart. Meanwhile, her single The Fate of Ophelia remains at the top of the singles tally.

The Fate of Ophelia marks Swift’s 13th chart-topping single in Australia. With five weeks at the summit, it becomes her second-longest leader, just behind 2022’s Anti-Hero, which spent six weeks at No. 1.

The top new entry on the latest ARIA Albums Chart, published Friday, 7 November, is Florence + The Machine. Their sixth album, Everybody Scream (Polydor/Universal), debuts at No. 4. All of Florence + The Machine’s albums have reached the ARIA top 10, including No. 1s for Ceremonials (2011) and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015).

Bernard Fanning, frontman of Powderfinger, returns to the top 10 with the 20th anniversary edition of his debut solo album, Tea & Sympathy (Dew Process/Universal), re-entering at No. 7. The record also leads the Australian Albums Chart, the Vinyl Chart, and the On Replay Albums Chart. Fanning made waves in July, collecting four entries in triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian music, including three with Powderfinger and his solo track Wish You Well at No. 57.

Also new to the albums chart is Cloning, a Western Australian rock band, whose debut album Vitriol (GYRO) enters at No. 12, ahead of a national tour later this month.

Radiohead makes a return to the charts as they prepare for another UK tour later in the year. Hail To The Chief Live Recordings 2003–2009 (via XL) debuts at No. 15, following the 2023 studio release of Hail To The Chief, which reached No. 2.

Hayley Williams of Paramore impacts the chart with her independently-released solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, debuting at No. 24. The collection repackages songs she released earlier this year across her streaming platforms.

The Belair Lip Bombs, an indie rock band from Frankston, Victoria, make their ARIA chart debut with their sophomore album Again (Third Man Records/RK) at No. 25. The band is notable for being the first Australian act signed to Jack White’s Nashville-based Third Man Records, and is among eight Australian recordings in the ARIA top 50.

Further down, Brisbane nu-metal band Headwreck narrowly misses the top 40 with Attitude Adjustment (Ditto), debuting at No. 43, marking their first ARIA chart appearance.

On the ARIA Singles Chart, Tame Impala is the only Australian artist in the top 50, as Dracula (Columbia/Sony) rises from 50 to 37, a new peak. Meanwhile, one new entry makes its mark: Lily Allen’s Pussy Palace (BMG), debuting at No. 50.

This week’s ARIA update highlights a mix of global superstars, veteran Australian artists, and fresh local talent, with Swift firmly at the forefront.
